My catalytic converter theft- add me to the list =(

Did your dad not get their plate number? Glad they got their window smashed, but a simple plate number would put them in jail.

When I was in college, a couple of teenagers would come through the townhouse complex my roommates and I lived in one night a week an bust out a window with a rock. We camped out in the woods every night, and on the 3rd night they came through. Tossed half a cinder block through the back window of my Land Rover and took off. We got a plate number...

But not before we all let loose our own rocks at the car. My buddies sailed right through the back passenger window. We called the police and gave them the plate number, description, and said "it will have a few dents on the right side".

Cops called three weeks later, each of the three boys had gotten part time jobs to pay for every window they broke (9 total) after which their 100 hour community service sentence started.

yeah no plate number,we knew that would be the best but in the moment thats the last thing we thought about.
anything cop affiliated is always my dads second choice when it comes down to this stuff. putting the person in the ER is always first

talked to my insurance, my deductable is $500
and they will pay the full amount at the shop.

claim is not set in stone, if i can do it under 500 i can tell them to forget about the claim.

ooooorrr do it myself which looks cheaper right now.

Supra, I know Cali has stricter regulations than anywhere else, but I'd weld a test pipe in there for 10 bucks and call it done.

Sorry this happened to you. i dont wish ill will on any one. But geez louis, reading your posts give me a headache. Don't you have spell check?. And it's called a Sawzall, not a saw saw. And why are you putting a claim with your insurance? If your deductible is 500, just get a free flow cat and pay someone to put it in. Or get your welder dad to put it on. It will be the same cost if not less, and you wont have a claim on record. Just speaking from experience.

When something happens like that to you who cares about proper punctuation ? Not me. I was just trying to get my story out fast, out of anger.
And i called my insurance to see what they would do about it, some insurance will send a check before you get it done so you can cash in on it by doing it yourself. Ive been paying them around $100 a month after all.
PS my dad has deep gashes all over his legs he cant climb under there anytime soon. This is my DD

haha! that sounds like a good way for a temporary fix so i can get around.
after all the cops said i can drive it without the cat as long as i carry around the report reciept

Your dad is awesome. Guys that steal cats late at night are probably not the most dangerous folk, so the risk was minimal, and the glory big. I second the camera set up.

Sorry for your loss dude. I didn't think cat thefts were to common in our area anymore since the cops started going after places that buy them. I'm so glad I live in a back house so I can just park my truck in the back and people on the street can't see it. Maybe you can invest in a catclamp or some kind of anti cat theft device so riff raff have a harder time to steal it.

Some insurance companies send you a check for their estimated fix price, that's how much you get. It could cost you more or less than they gave you to fix, it doesn't matter.

My rear bumper got smashed, insurance company sent me a check for it. I went to a pick & pull and replaced it myself for much less and kept the rest. It's not insurance fraud, it's the way it works for smart people. LOL

Besides, this forum is not for the fraud or life police. It's about 4Runner owners helping each other, in this case with the loss of his Cat...

Man that sucks. I know i wanted to hunt some one down when mine got stolen. Did they cut the o2 sensor too? I was lucky that they left it on mine. It is amazing how quick they can do this. I just went to a local exhaust shop and had them throw something cheap in there. Going through insurance kinda sucks because every claim you file goes on your record with them.

luckily they did not cut the sensors and did clean straight cuts but one side is extremly close to the sensor where it would have to be welded.

thinking about it they have to replace their window, tint, rear defogger, rear window wiper, and license frame. who wins? ha

we put a straight pipe on with 4 clamps for a quick fix so i can get to work until we actually get the new cat and fab up something to make it anti theft proof
