my chrome grille insert is loose

has anyone taken apart the grille to know how the center chrome piece connects?

mine seems well attached in the center but both outer ends seem like nothing it holding them. there is a slight gap between them and the plastic grille its attached to and it moves around if you push on it, not enough to think its loose but enough to think its missing "some" type of securing snap to hold it firmly in place.

from the back I cant see any way its secured on or how it comes off to investigate how it attaches

anybody out there ever had this thing apart to maybe know if it normal to be loose and flopping around on the outer edges to rattle when I close the hood?

this is what it looks like, im referring to the middle section that encircles the Toyota emblem http://www.ebay.com/itm/Grille-TOYO...ash=item568d257149:g:7lkAAOSwvzRX1vEp&vxp=mtr

Mine is loose so it rattles when I shut the hood but it must not be quite as far along as yours. I've been wondering how would be best to repair this but that falls down on the project priority list behind suspension and tires at the moment......

You should be able to identify the hardware and clips when looking at the grille from the backside.

I tried to take mine off to paint it. Stripped a few, then gave up before I made it worse. Passenger edge of the middle chrome strip is loose now.

when I look at the back side of grille I don't see any obvious snaps, catches, or attachment points, no nuts or wedges or anything that looks like a catch

Look at the 2nd picture in post #234 in this build thread. See if it helps you take out the center of the grille.

thanks

hmmm, that helps but I still cant tell what missing/broken/loose

will take another look tomorrow and see if I cant see anything more, I have blurry vision so its not easy to see things in pictures

do you remember if it was snap clips or screws that hold it together?

Bumping this old thread for anyone who’s having trouble. I “fixed” the issue with some zip ties and a drill bit through the metal that secures the clips to the plastic portion. honestly IDGAF about how it looks - at this point - most of the plastic bits on the front end are secured with zip ties lmao.

Truck is mechanically sound with 200k miles and zero issues, as long as it works - that’s all that counts
