My day at the Auto Salvage Yard

so today i went to a local salvage yard, my first time being at one. it was $1 to get in and there were hundreds of cars. my quest was to find a spoiler for the 3rd gen and a rear hitch. My question is at the end of all this...

i called in first and wanted to see if they had a 4runner there, they said they had one in the yard. When i got there found out it was a 96' limited. It was completely stripped down unlike the other cars and trucks out there. And i mean they stripped it down clean! engine, seats, dash, steering wheel, wheels were all gone. Someone stripped the spoiler which what i was going after. also i was looking at taking off the limited flares and door "flares" however it was missing the 2 front flares. i managed to scrap up some lightbulbs #74, from the glovebox and keyring lol. however they still had the roof rack..might take that tomroow or next week.

looked around some more and i found a clean '96 landcruiser sitting there. I figured this car just got here because everything was still there..seats..engine...everything except the CD player lol. i snagged the hubcaps off the rims, also snagged the clock (mine doesnt work)...however i dont think the clock even works with the 4r. was about to take apart the rear hitch and take the LC rims but i didnt have the tools. took the headlight bulbs outa the headlamps, (turns out they were 9005 HB3 instead of the 9003 HB3 i need)

i might go back there tomorrow, i was just wondering what else can i pull off this car? its a 96' landcruiser. i was thinking about taking the springs also but i can't do that myself. Also since my clock doesnt work, which other toyota models have the same clock as the 3rd gens?

**there were about 50 ford exploeres and jeep cherokees there....whats up with that

You can pull the rear coil springs off of the Land cruiser, even if you don't want them, you can sell them on here. Plenty of guys on here are always looking for a pair.

By the way, why are you pulling bulbs out of these cars? You know you can buy NEW bulbs at Pep Boys or any other auto parts store for relatively cheap.

Clocks are pretty cheap, check E-bay. As far as the Land cruiser if it has E-lockers you want the front and rear thirds and E-locker switch, ecu, etc. If not those thirds are still desirable, especially the front hi-pinion. The rear springs are easy to take out, just unbolt the shocks, arms, etc. and jack it up until they fall out.

how much should i pay for them to walk out the door? i dont want to be ripped off, so just give me an estimate and i can work it to a lower price when i pay. i dont know how long the springs will be there, but ill check back saturday to get them out...as for snagging the bulbs..mine went out and i couldnt find time to go pick them up, saw a chance to get free here so wala

Well, I would say you should get them for less than $30 for the pair of springs, I'm guessing guys on here are paying somewhere between $50 and $75 for the pair. Anyone else have a good idea what these go for?

Although, now that I think about it, I you cant get them for really cheap, (like $5 for the pair) it may not be worth the effort to get them out only to make $20 off them, at least that's my opinion. Unless you want them for yourself, then that's a different story

lol, nice. its probably from that whole "cash for clunkers" deal. i work at a salvage yard and the exploders and cherokees where the main thing we got in. sadly, i did see a few 3rd gens come in.

You want the front FZJ-80 springs to lift the rear of a 3rd gen 4RnR, the rears lift the rears of the 2nd gen. :hiding:
