My exhaust review

So I just installed an MBRP cat back stainless 2.5" exhaust. Start to finish was 2 hrs by myself. Front muffler bolts came right out, rear not so much. Rusted and just rounded off, ended up cutting pipe. New exhaust went together real nice. Only problem is its loud inside at certain rpm's. I will probably end up swapping in a different muffler. Now that its done I should of went with Borla, but was to worried it would be too quiet. Well as usual, live and learn.

I had the same experience with the Gibson cat back. The seller swore there was no drone but there is definitely drone around 1.2K RPM.

A call to Gibson was helpful and they recommended adding a Vibrant resonator. So, in addition to adding some soundproofing to the back floor of the cabin i added a resonator upstream of the muffler.

It's an easy slip for with no welding necessary. Putting this on meant not being able to use one of the exhaust hangar points but the new system is so light it's not missed.

Well after a road trip to Summit Racing yesterday, picked up a Magnaflow Stainless muffler and this morning swapped the MBRP out for the Magnaflow. WAY better ! Still has a deep tone and a little drone at certain rpm point but nothing anywhere as bad as the MBRP. Even the wife said its 100% better !

I also rock the MBRP exhaust & I think it's awesome. I don't really think it's too loud (but my prior vehicle was a Dakota with a V8 Magnum & Gibson exhaust - that was loud). My wife thought it was too loud in the beginning but after a week or so she got used to it. I think for the price, you cannot beat this setup.

My only gripe was all the water that would leak out of the band clamps that attach the actual muffler to the pipes. I called MBRP for torque specs & matched what they recomend but could not get the drips to stop - which worried me because I didn't want rust to start. Anyways, wleded that muffler in & no more drips (also, made switching out mufflers a little more challenging). Do you get those water drips from those clamps (typically around warming up the vehicle or on shorter drives where the exhaust hasn't heated up enough to burn up the water?

Haven't noticed any drips. Normally its driven long enough to heat up.

My wife thought it was too loud in the beginning but after a week or so she got used to it.

New exhaust will quiet a bit once it gets some miles on it, some carbon into it.

Thank you for your review, making me very glad I decided to go with the Borla. It is on the quieter side, but definitely has a nice sound and no drone whatsoever. Glad you were able to swap out the Magnaflow and get a better sound :thumb:
