My father is looking to buy new van

Thank you all for your info and help. My father decided to ditch the mini van and opted for a 2014 f150. I think he made a good choice. It's the eco-boost. 4 door. It will suit his needs even better then the van. Little more money but it's ok.

Sounds like he got swindled...how did he go from a van to an f150? And good luck with the eco-boost.

You put up 3 rows in a Pilot or Highlander and you have almost zero cargo. I have MDX. I would argue that MDX is pure SUV. It is sporty, has an amazing AWD system that is both capable and sporty, and has lots of utility. BUT, the lack of cargo with 3 rows up is why we also have a Sienna minivan.

Or keep an old 4runner around for cargo

Any issues with MDXs? I'm shopping around for a 3-row vehicle. Undecided if I'm going the minivan route or 3-row crossover route.

No issues with my 2015 MDX. I got lucky i think. 2014 was the first year it came out and its infotainment system was a mess...slow processor...and not everyone liked the touchscreen for everything. 2014 also carried with it some typical 1st year bugs. In 2015, they updated the software AND the processor, which made it significantly better (but still tons of touchscreen). Then in 2016, Acura decided to put in the HORRIBLE ZF 9-speed automatic transmission to replace Acura-designed 6-speed auto that was in my MDX. They also removed the transmission lever in 2016 and replace it with button-type shifter.

So, my 2015 is the Goldilock of the bunch...no more 1st year bugs, better infotainment system (but again, still confusing), and still have the pretty decent 6-speed auto tranny.

Like i said above...IF you plan on using 3 rows AND carry cargo, then minivan. But if you plan on using 3 rows only for short drives in the city (aka emergency use of 3rd row), then MDX is a great vehicle. MDX is truly sports utility...pretty sporty to drive (relatively) with real nice compromise b/w firm suspension and comfy ride, VERY quiet, and solid as a tank (proven by beyond amazing crash test scores). My children (ages 8 and 9) have no issue sitting in 3rd row. Older and longer kids may have issue.

For me, the BIGGEST complaint i have about MDX is that there are no A/C vents for the 3rd row. (Yet, Honda Pilot has them!)

Since he's a fairly new home owner. He likes to do a lot of projects around the house. Having owning a minivan before. I think he realized it's time to step up. And he also goes diving. So it's much easier to put his equipment.
