My first 3rd gen... Is it a "Highlander"?

Wondering about the yellow paint marker writing, auto wrecking yards do that. It is pretty easy to remove and swap a vin sticker. Not saying its not a Highlander just that some things seem off to me. Yes nice 4runner, clean.

You can also go to the local dealer and have them print up the original window sticker.
It will show you what options were put on the vehicle.

That's how I discovered I had one as well.

Well I guess if I really investigate I could probably find out for sure what it is but Im still not sure which one it is... Ultimately it doesnt really matter...I was just curious as to what I have, but I am just happy to have finally found a decent 3rd gen. Maybe at some point Ill go to the dealership and see if they can give me any more info. I appreciate the input and the shared curiosity!

Agreed. This 4runner has some odd stuff going on. OP, you should continue investigating to find out exactly what you have and what the history of the truck looks like.

The 4Runner was never serviced at a dealership. Not even once. Latest mileage recorded by Toyota was 00,000.

The elocker was indeed part of the "Highlander" package.

OP, the VIN sticker on the front bumper can be seen if you look down behind the grill... It's on a little piece of plastic the protrudes off of the top of the bumper.

Another thing that's curious to me is the lack of a rear wind deflector, but having the tow package, and roof rack. These were all part of the same convenience package (C7) so if it has 2 of the 3... It would make sense to have the 3rd...

I think there's something fishy going on here, OP. Hopefully it's nothing too crazy.

Take 4 pictures for me, if you get a chance... One straight on from the front, one straight on from the rear, and one straight on from both the driver and passenger side.

Okay this seems to have created quite a mystery... I do know that the owner I just bought the truck off of said that he bought it off a mechanic who imported the truck from the US (I believe he said from Arizona). So to clarify the truck is from the US even though I live in Canada.... the odometer is in miles, not kilometres. If it was originally owned by a mechanic, then maybe that is why it hasnt been serviced at Toyota and why it has things changed on it. To be honest... I've owned several Toyota's and have never had them serviced at Toyota as I am not rich A.Wilson013 I'll get those pics for you shortly.

And I totally feel stupid for not seeing the VIN on the bumper... couldn't have been more obvious...and it actually does match the rest.

Im wondering if maybe the bumpers and maybe the fender flares were just painted the silver colour?

The Higlander/Sport did not have e-locker standard. It had 4.10 gears standard because of the standard 16 inch 5 star wheels. It was more appearance oriented than anything. I have even seen RWD Highlander/Sport's for sale.

The Toyota service website is not reliable. I have had servicing done at my local dealers numerous times in the past but it reports none of it. I know for a fact that multiple dealers have service records that haven't been reported to that site.

OP, I'm thinking that the bumper color was changed really early on by a very particular previous owner. I guess somebody wanted a 5-speed manual with the two-tone paint scheme of a 99-00 Limited.

Not only that, but I know for a fact that info that WAS on there disappears. I had my 5k and 30k services done at the stealer because I needed warranty work done at the same time and I wanted to avoid static about servicing it myself, which I have done ever since. Those items appeared in my history, but about four or five years ago I looked and suddenly my history was empty. I doubt it was just me.

Not entirely true,

The e-locker was standard for the XP package

Now the SP package did not come with the locker, and actually that is the only difference between both packages, one with locker/one without locker.
