Hey, everyone. Got my first 4Runner back in December - a great 2wd silver’03 Limited V8, with only 100k miles and a beautiful interior. Have been lurking around here ever since.
I’m getting up the nerve to start some mods, so I’m sure I’ll be posting more frequently.
First project is blacking out the grille. I bought a bare one on Ebay, and am almost finished…but would like some advice on the last step. After sanding it down, priming, sanding it again and putting down 4 coats of flat black… I’m now wondering if I should keep it as is, or add Clear Coat as a final step.
I like the flat look, and don’t want it to end up glossy. However, it seems like a flat clear coat would add some extra protection from chips and scuffs. (Most driving is urban/hwy in SoCal, and not a lot of off roading).
Any thoughts/advice? Current plan is to add some more paint, and see how it goes. I figure I can always re-sand and add clear coat later on if necessary.
