hi all. i just bought my first 1994 4runner and i want to make it into a sweet ride. i know a lot of people do the trailrunner thing, but i was looking to put a stereo in it and stuff like that. and so im looking for suggestions as far as that stuff. i was also wondering if anyone here has lowered their runner and how it turned out.

As far as stereos go, when I bought my 94 4Runner, it had the stock cassette player and that was it. I didn't need a flashy system and didn't want to deal with faceplates and whatnot so I got a cd/cassette/stereo double-DIN unit from a late 90s Camry off eBay and replaced the stock cassette player with it. The Camry stereo looks great, sounds great and was a snap to install.
The wiring harness in both stereos are the same and the Camry stereo has the amplifier built in so I was able to put in the new stereo quite easily.

As far as speakers go, I disconnected the stock ones in the cargo bay walls, ran the line to the bottom of the panel and attached some 6x9s in a box to each wall. I did it this way because I didn't want to cut the plastic panels and leave myself more options if I wanted to put a different speaker box in the back. For the front speakers I took out the stock pieces of crap and put in 4" Fosgates. I think I had to do a bit of carving into the stock speaker boxes to get them to fit.

well, ive got a pair of 10" alpine type Rs powered by a 1000w rockford amp waiting to go in. all im waiting for is a head unit. i was looking at the alpine cda-9856. i know alpine's expensive and stuff, but i really like their products. i was checking out the speakers in the cargo bay yesterday and i was seeing that they would be kinda hard to get to and all, but i really like the fact that there's already 8 speakers in the thing. i was wondering what the speaker sizes were that are already in there. i just want to know what to look for before i go tearing into it. i was also wanting to see how other people did the wiring from the back up to the battery and such.

where is the location of the 8 speakers in your truck? my 93 only came with 4, two in cargo walls and two in front. i see what looks like where tweeters could go above the tailgate but there wasn't any wiring up in there when i took it all apart.

well i don't know if there's a speaker in each hole, but i was just counting the places where speakers could go. i haven't gone in the back to listen

Honistly I have no clue on lowering a 4runner. Is your's 4wd if so that'll lower your options even more. I do know however you could put 22" on it... If you wanted.

As far as sound I put in a nice kenwood head MTX 200 watt amp for a 10 Trio sub and a 300 Watt pioneer for a couple of 6x9's and left the stock speakers. Its really nice. However putting in a new head unit is a PITA, well somewhat, you have to pull the lower dash appart.

yeah mine is 4wd. it's an sr5. i don't know if that actually makes a difference as far as my options or not, but i thought id throw it in there. and as for now, i won't be going with the 22's cause that's not so good for gas mileage and as a college student, i don't have the money for it anyways. it would be sweet, and rims are on the agenda, but not until i get my bank account back up. what are the sizes for the different speakers? i know there's 2 in the front and at least 2 in the back. however, it looks like there's places for 4 more in the cargo bay; 2 above the gate and 2 more on the back corners.

I believe the upper speaker locations in the back are for tweeters. The fronts are 4 inchers, and the back are 6 inch... I think
