my first broken 4runner. intermittent cel

Hi,
my Toyota 4runner 3.0 4x4 manual 1993 has a engine check light that will come on and go out intermittently. I've not paid for a mechanic to look at it because I can't book it in if the light isn't gonna be on when I get there. The last time it went out I covered 100+ miles before it came on again (over a few days). The truck runs fine, no miss firing. I thought it might have been the fuel I was using so I switched to premium from regular and it went out for a few days but is now back on. Guess it was just a coincidence......
Does it sound serious problem? Any idea what I could do?

Thanks for replying so fast! I really appreciate it! I pulled two codes,25 and 26. Unfortunatly the engine check light went out just before I did it! Typical! Are these the codes I would have seen if the check light were still on before the test? Is it of any significants that the check light keeps going out? Cheers.

25 is air/fuel ratio lean and 26 is air/fuel ratio rich.
Possible causes are O2 sensor/wiring, injector, AFM, or fuel pressure.
O2 sensor is probably most common cause.

I bought a manual and an air filter. The old one was a bit dirty, could that be enough to flag the CEL? I had a look around the truck and found that the o2 sensor cable looks like it has been damaged at some point because there is a load of tape around it. I moved the cables a lot but didn't flag the CEL.

i would just replace the o2 sensor. my cel would come and go as well and could never pull the code since after ever restart the cel would be gone and no code when checking. i replaced the o2 sensor and have yet see a cel since. been a year now i think

I used to have the same problem until I changed out my O2 censor as well. I have not seen anything yet either it has been about three months for me.

Thanks people! I will swap it out. It has not been on since last post but annoying when it does!!! I jcust bought the truck for a trip to baja and want it to be sweet! Fingers crossed a!

Don't fixate on the CEL being intermittent. As I posted above, both your codes point to O2 sensor, and you stated your O2 sensor wiring has a problem.
