my first time offroading

Hey guys (gals),

Here are some pictures from my road trip to Death Valley...over the long weekend.

Was going to try some offroading trail there, but one of the rangers found out what I was going to do...he advised against it since I was by myself. But I still did go on some of the trails, but nothing really severe...nothing as intense as some of you guys have shown here...I guess you would call the trails light to medium.

I should take an offroading class...after starting on one of the 'medium' trails, it got a little hairy.

'The flesh is strong, but the will is weak'...the 4Runner is willing, but the driver is not...

:p

Gas in Trona

I didn't even know they had fuel in Trona.
Guess I never noticed, I'm usually on the hunt for Pink Halite. There is a great Gem and Mineral Show in Trona the second weekend in October every year. The mineral plant there opens to the public to collect Pink Halite and Hanksite.
It is a great time if you don't mind getting dirty. Pretty unique minerals.

I'll be there this year, any one that wants more info PM me.

Yeah, if I remember right, it was a small Texaco station right in the middle of town along Trona-Wildrose Rd???

It was 3.29/gal for regular if I remember right...and here I though the Bay Area had the highest gas prices.

I guess out in the middle of nowhere, supply and demand rules...

Been on a few trails there

I just don't remember most of the names. I am staying at the Panamint Inn for 1 night and up there just outside of the valley is a well known ghost town and another ride that takes you to a beautiful oasis. I'm less familiar with rides down in the valley. Temperatures are 40 at night and high of 80, so this is the ideal time to go although another month would be optimul for the wild flowers. I am also staying at Furnace Creek Inn for one night.

I stayed two nights at Stovepipe Wells...my first night there, I walked out about 10pm to get something out of my truck...and I just happen to look up...DUDE! Where did all these stars come from?!?!?

People wondered why I went in the summer...it was the only time I could get away from work and I wanted to experience the famous Death Valley heat.

80, eh? That's a lot better than 120. I think it was 80+ at night during the summer.

I am planning on going again sometime next month...so maybe I'll finally get to see those flowers.
