Hello, I have been lurking around this section for a while now researching 5th gens and everything there is to know about them.
I have always been a fan of the 1st gens and have owned 3 of them. My first one was a blue 85 sr5 that I wish I had pictures of.
My second was a white 87 that I had a lot of fun in but ultimately sold due to living in houston at the time and not having any A/C
I replaced it with this gray 87 SR5 with A/C, cruise control and all that. (though none of it worked very well.)
Then I unfortunately got a call from my little brother that I was lending it to that the 22re had given up. No compression on cylinders 1 and 2. I will put another engine in it but I figured this was the universes way of telling me to buy a new truck. I have always driven high mileage, old, used vehicles and decided that it was time to treat myself to something nice.
So after all my research here I decided on a 2010 Trail Edition in either grey, black or silver. Low and behold I found this in Colorado Springs
2010 Trail with a factory installed Toytec (under warranty) with 33k miles on the clock for a great deal.
The purist in me felt a little odd about buying a truck already lifted, but after my research, the toytec was the lift I was going to go with anyhow and this give me a head start so I can focus on things like roof racks, bumpers and sliders. I realize some may feel that after researching I should have perhaps settled on Icon stage 6 suspension with adjustable everything and billet this and that, but the Toytec more than suites my modest offroad needs.
Maiden voyage was into the hills behind Purg to show Sundog and friend the Bolam route to Rico... This ended poorly. Yokohama Geolanders will be getting replaced ASAP. Possibly the worst tires for snow I have ever encountered.
At any rate I am ridiculously happy with the new truck and look forward to outfitting it for mountain activity. I would like to thank all the regular contributors of this place for all the info and knowledge posted here. I have learned a ton and gained inspiration from all the awesome builds here, socaltrail, audio3x, harper7, warnerd9 just to name the ones that stick out in my mind presently. So many sick rigs on here.
Also I live about 30min north of Durango, Co which is a fairly popular area for off roading as I know some of you are aware. I grew up here and know the area extremely well, so if anyone has any questions or ever happens this way let me know, I am more than willing to help out or direct in any way I can.
