Custom machined a shackle bracket to fit the hitch receiver. Finally made a small pc. of insurance out of tool steel to make it easier to use my recovery strap "just in case". You never know who you might have to help out of the ditch in the middle of winter (even I wouldn't leave a Heep driver stranded.)

Yeah, I know. I have the rest of the gloss black spray bomb to use on that as soon as the weather warms up, say in 4 months or so...

Thanks for the interest guys but it was a one-of. Borrowed some free shop time. Besides, it would cost to much to ship because of the wt. FYI, I got the 7/8" hi-tensile galvanized shackle for 9.99 Loonies at a local auto supply (Princess Auto.)
 
If you guys are really interested in getting these tow-shackles made, I have a mom & pop machine shop that I use A LOT for work purposes. They make stuff for me all the time, and at really good prices.

But, as Kmvreter mentioned, s&h for a heavy object like this won't be cheap.

Kmvreter - Would you mind shooting over the dimensions of the part? I can create a quick drawing and fax it to these guys, and then once I get the prices back from them I'll post here and try to organize a group buy.

One idea is that we could get these powder coated or perhaps even plated for rust protection. Would cost more, but I can request for quote and find out.
 
Do they sell these at walmart? I'll keep the receipt so if it starts to rust about ten years from now; I'll just return it to an Arkansas store in exchange for a brand new one. That's the way Mr. Sam Walton use to treat the customer.

I worked on it from scratch. Started with a 2x2x7" block. Put a 5/8+" hole 2" in from one end for the hitch pin. A 1+" hole 1-1/2" in from the other end. Carved down the width to 1-3/8" at that end for about 2-1/2" length to fit the shackle (depends on actual shackle) and created a rounded (radius) end. Had to go back and add the 4 chamfers down the length in order to fit into the receiver.
 
That's what gave me the idea. Why get that over priced item when I can actually make one for the cost of a shackle (C$10; U$7) and free shop time.

...and the feeling of satisfaction you get from making your own. If I still had free shop and material access I'd do the same.
