My little paint project (56K warning)

I've decided not to paint the buttons until I can figure out a better way to letter them :lol: I'm hoping I can find some stickers at an arts and crafts shop that are small enough. As far as the 4WD control, I still haven't come up with any good ideas, but I'm going to try the clear tape thing that I mentioned before. If I think it will work, then I'll go for it. If not, it'll stay silver for the time being.

That's all for now, I'll post back up when there is something interesting to see.

as for 4wd id say just put small as possible little squares of tape over teh letters so that the whole knob is white except for the small little part where the letters are just so it will light up.

Ya I may end up doing that as a "for now" kind of thing. Not a bad idea to a least have most of the knob the right color.

This is a fascinating post, especially for those of us who would never have the time for the tedius and exacting work this job entails.

I find it particularly interesting being a fan of Porsche, where you can order various interior parts (such as the center piece between the buckets) painted by the factory to match the exterior color. The prices from Porsche are insane, but it sure looks incredible. Based on the time and care this job is being done with it looks like this TR4 will be a one of a kind special.

Ya time is something I have a lot of for the next two or three weeks. Only one class a day till then. Gotta love summer session. My one of my neighbors was a huge porsche fan as well, and I always did like the custom factory interiors. Likewise with this guy's veyron further back in the neighborhood. Even more interior options with that thing. I wish I had that kind of money LOL. Thank you for your compliments!

:iagree: Very nice job taping those things off, I know how painfully time consuming that is, and also how important it is for the end product. Just wish I could take my own advice sometimes! but all-in-all, VERY nice job with this mod so far.

Thanks! It is a bit time consuming, but I have learned from my past experiences not to rush these things, and to make sure everything is just right. I sure as hell don't have the cash to replace these parts if I screw it up, so I'm trying to make sure I do it right. Again, thanks for the compliments!

I appreciate it. I think I'm going to check the local stores first before I look for online options. Just because for these little intricate things, it's better to be able to measure and eyeball it first. If I can't find anything, I will be looking at these (the price is right, that's for sure!), as well as doing my own search.

I used to cut out my own vinyl decals using this method. Its very time consuming but it looks like thats not a problem for you. For lettering that small it will be difficult.

Use your computer to print out the letters you need. Play around with the font style and size until you find one that works. Take the printed paper and overlay it on your blue tape and cut out the letters.

The last pictures that I uploaded in posts 4-5 are how my truck looks right now. As I said, some of it needs to get cleaned up and when it does, I will post updates. As of today, though, that is how it is. If you stay subscribed to this thread though, then you will know as soon as I take care of the little things that need to get done (particularly the speedo bleeding).

i wouldnt say that it looks awful... i think its pretty cool i just couldnt see myself trying to do it to my 4runner myself. id be too scared to even if i wanted to do it very badly haha:hiding:

if you are happy with the outcome then it was a successful mod. thats all that matters:driving:

just might not be some ppl's cup of tea

also reminds me of an fj cause the fj's interior matches exterior... kinda cool

I think if you go back and hit the gear shifters / ac etc it would complete the look, you don't want to over-do it though!

I thought about how the FJ looks like that and I hate the FJ interiors. I think it was the blue one that I saw. But I think the 4Runner colors lend themselves better to having the interior painted to match.

Haha I can totally see the star wars in it! And in the thread I mentioned that I was switching the shifter for my 06 one that is all black leather. That's why it's not painted. I would normally be a d*ck and say read the thread, but I totally understand you not reading this entire, exhausting thread lol. What on the A/C do you thin should also be painted? The semi-sphere's behind the knobs?

That came out nice! And I don't know I'll have to look into the sphere's contact with the button thingy. Right now though I want to concentrate on fixing the speedo. But at the same time, I want to get a new speedo face because I don't like where the boost gauge is. I wonder if Toyota will still be selling that piece or if I have to go find a crashed one?

Ya it's pretty thick and sturdy but I don't know if it's 4 kids sturdy! When I have kids I'll respray it with something even more durable (yes a plan to have the truck that long ).
