I have a 2004 SR5 with 150k miles on it. It's been the best car I have ever owned until recently....
I had to drive it through some high water (up to the running boards) about six weeks ago. The day after (coincidence?) my car started making a loud winding noise when it started. This turned out to be the lower belt bearing and the pulley.
I did drive it for a while with the lower belt bearing issue, and right before I took it to my mechanic the car started to shake when I started it. It would shake for about 15 seconds and then it would run fine; I would put it in drive and go. No issues once it was moving forward. Finally after doing that for a few days I started it, the check engine light and VSC lights came on. I dropped if off with my mechanic. He fixed the bearing and belt. The code the car was throwing was a miscellaneous misfire code he said. He pulled the coils and spark plugs and put everything back. The light went off and I went and picked it up.
It still shook when I started it. 150 miles later (after the check engine light cycled) the light came back on. I dropped it off again. He replaced a fuel injector (threw the code for this) and ran some fuel cleaner through it. I brought it home. It started fine at the mechanic. The next morning, again it shook when I started it, but ran fine. And again, after 150 miles the lights came back on.
I have dropped it off with him again. He called this afternoon and said he's been driving it for a week. Each time the check engine light comes on it throws a different code. He told me to come pick it up and drop it off with Toyota... he's baffled.
So now I'm panicking... I can see this costing $$$$$ to fix. Any ideas or suggestions?
