My MPG

so a couple of people have asked me what my gas mileage is now that im running 32's and change in acceleration.
its a 98 2wd 4banger automatic- with K&N CAI, stock gears ( i think), magnaflow 18''(stock pipes)
i calculated my mpg using regular gas and driving speed limits (grandma'ing) with the mix of both highway and city (more highway)

according to Gas Mileage of 1998 Vehicles by Toyota i should get 18 city, 22 highway off the lot...
I ended up with 20 MPG
not much change in acceleration. a little but not really noticable.

Awesome! That makes me feel better since I'm doing the 31x10.50r15 and I've got a 00 2wd automatic stock gearing! I was worried about the acceleration! Thanks for the info!

That's great mpg. I'm running 31/10.5/15 , 2001 sr5 4x4 and getting 16/19. No lift (yet)

I get about 14.5 city, on stock size tires. Sucks!

I was putting off the CAI for a while because i did not think it would help THAT much,
But it helped me ALOT with acceleration, MPG, and overall performance and sound.

the drop in square one? Do you also have a deck plate mod in there?

no i have the full k&n cold air intake
this one 98 1998 4Runner K&N Air Intake Kit - Cold Air Intake Kit - 4 Cyl 2.7L, 6 Cyl 3.4L - Auto Parts Network
but i got it on ebay.
before i had the drop in one with no mods, it dident do any difference in my opinion

im running 33's I average bout 16mpg that's bout half hwy/cty.
been thinking about an intake but I think I would be more tempted to rev it up to hear it going

I'm getting 12 city and 14.5 hwy with 33 mts. About to throw some stock 05 tacoma trd rims and stock tires on for better mpg.

i personally like it. i know other people have had problems with them but i never have. i wanted something louder than stock but not really loud and it turned out perfect for me

haha yeah the throttle response is alot better in my opinion, and high speeds seem alot smoother.
the first 2 weeks i had it i would take off fast to hear it haha it sounds amazing, deffinatly sounds alot more like a truck with it

try replacing

-spark plugs
-spark plug wires
-fuel filter
-fuel injection cleaner
-intake filter

i use to get the miles u get before i did all that, just regular maintenance. the fuel filter definatly helps.

I already replaced the spark plugs, fuel filter, and have a k&n drop in filter.
But if you have the limited model with the elocker you have 4.30 gears which will help with that mileage also. But the wires and fuel injection cleaning will have to wait until summer since i'm crammed with college and lacrosse.

I have tourque for my andriod phone and a blue tooth elm 327..

When I'm on level highway I get (5spd)

24mpg at 80kph
22mpg at 100kph (60mph)
20mpg at 110

I also have a CEL from my Rear O2.. so this could be a limp program hopefully the 02 is not working... an oil burning thing would suck.

My friends limited auto gets

20mpg at 100
21mpg at 110 Wierd no?

At full throttle we both get 3mpg.
