My new 04 sport is ticking...

I hear a faint ticking noise from the driver side. It only happens when I hit a bump and it sounds like a thin loose wire is hitting against the panel or something. I hear it right next to the driver side visor where the headliner meets the curtain airbag pillar. Did anyone experience this problem? I searched for hours on this noise and I didn't find a clear answer yet. I don't have a sun/moonroof by the way.

As far as I can remember, I haven't seen any posts on what you describe. Does it go away momentarily if you apply pressure to a certain area when you go over a bump? Take it to the dealer and have them look at it.
 
Sure it isn't your key ring hitting the dash. Mine does this and at first I could not tell where the noise was coming from since these things are so quiet.
 
Key rattle= annoyance

Mine did the same thing for months. I finally used some gray rubber window gasket (the kind with the tape back) and made a bumper on the dash and steering column. No more noise.:)

Hopefully your ticking noise isn't more serious.
 
I took everything off the keychain and it still rattles... Its definitely coming from either the curtain airbag pillar or the headliner. I guess I have to take it in to the dealer. Thanks.
 
Update...still haven't got the chance to drop it off at the dealer yet. I'm a mechanic so I rather fix it myself than to turn over my brand new baby to someone else.

I've been looking for the rattle for the last few weeks and my guess is it's in the headliner. I think it was caused during installation of the homelink unit because the homelink unit area also rattles when I hit a bump. So the homelink unit itself or near area is a problem and probably the wires that run from the unit along the headliner, down the right a-pillar into the dash.

Can someone please tell me how I can remove the headliner? Maybe a scan from a service manual?

Are you wearing your seatbelt when you hear the noise? I also get a rattle similar to what you hear but it comes from the passenger side. What I found is that the seatbelt anchor will vibrate against the round plastic stop on the seatbelt. When I first heard it I thought the window was loose in it's track.
 
Another update...I took the car to the dealer this morning. Dropped off the car at around 8am and I picked it up 6pm so they had the car for 10 hours. The invoice states "inspected and verified rattle. Couldn't locate source, recommend reschedule with loaner" I can't believe they couldn't find the rattle and had the car for 10 hours. They drove my car for 5 miles so obviously they were trying to locate it. Now I must call and schedule another appointment and this time they said I will be out of my car for days until the source is found. Very very disappointing...
 
Ok, it is finally fixed. After waiting another 3 days they finally found the problem. My service advisor wasn't around to explain what was actually done but the invoice shows "misaligned windshield". There were couple of black cross shaped clips that were taped to the work order but I didn't see a replacement part number so I'm guessing it was something they removed during the repair.

It is so quiet in my car now....very nice!
 
Hey bro, I've heard about this problem before. It only affects a very small percentage from what I hear too. When they install the windshield they are suppose to remove those clips. If they don't, you get what you experienced :arrow:

Black clips

I'm willing to bet those black clips were from your old map light unit, When I put homelink in mine I almost left the clips in there that had fallen off the old unit it the process of removing the original.

Actually, they are supposed to be for the tools that hold the windshield while it's being installed at the factory.
