My new 1999 SR5!

I've been lurking this site for a while now and have been meaning to post some pictures of my new (to me) 1999 4Runner. You guys have some awesome trucks, and it's very inspiring. I got my truck in early October after driving a 1999 ES300 for 8 years. I'd been wanting something more capable for a while, and a new job enabled it to finally happen. My Lexus had 272,000 miles on it when I got the 4Runner, and was a great car. Here it is:

The 4Runner has 160,000 miles on it and is in excellent condition. Virtually zero rust, and it has all its maintenance paperwork. I'm real happy with it, and got to test out the 4WD in some snow a few weeks ago. I can't wait for more! I plan on doing lots of camping and sight-seeing with it next summer.

It's stock right now. I want to take the running boards off, but I really want to find the front mud flaps, which I know are a sought-after piece. Hopefully I'll find some eventually. Next spring I'd like to get some 17" split-spoke Tundra wheels for it, and I'd also like to do a Satoshi grill mod and paint the bumpers body color. I come from a Toyota family - my parents had a 94 80 Series Landcruiser that had 312,000 miles on it when they sold it, my dad has a 99 Tacoma that he's had since new, and he also has a 71 FJ40 Landcruiser that he restored. Anyways, below are some pictures:

Thanks everyone. My dad runs a shop and we're going to do everything we can to keep the rust off it. I'm fortunate to have access to all the tools I could ever need!

I've got more pictures of that FJ40 that I'll try to upload tonight. The restoration is probably about 17 years old at this point, and the truck has held up great. My dad bought two FJ40's from a guy in town and combined them into one. It was a complete frame-off restoration that took several years. It has a 283 V-8 in it with tuned-port fuel injection, and it starts up like any modern car. He also did a power steering conversion and put heated leather seats from a Jetta in it. We used to take it to the U.P. to check out the trails, but that was when I was much younger. Nowadays it's mostly used as an around-town cruiser.

I wondered what was up with those badges - I'd never seen that color before. Pretty unique.

I'm in the Lansing area of Michigan. I spend lots of time up north too, around the Cheboygan area.

My cousin sold Avon cosmetics right out of college for 5 years. She drove an ES300 Coach Edition. Very nice car but a royal PITA to change the timing belt on. And the IAC got gunked up quickly. Nonetheless ever year during my New Years fishing stint in FL I always look for low mileage ES300s to add to my fleet but no success as of yet.

Thanks! Yeah, the ES300's are great cars, but I rarely see an older one in very good condition for whatever reason.

Oh thank you, and the dog's name is Casey. I've had him for a year and a half now. He's a good boy. That was a particularly good picture of him; normally he immediately looks away from a camera.

Nice man, welcome to 4runner life. Your rigs just like mine. Good move on ditching the brush guard. Pull off them running boards it looks so much better and more ground clearance. I was hesitant to pull mine off but it does not look bad without the mud flaps, a member on here makes caps for the front flares. The mud flaps are hard to find i got lucky and saw a post for a 4runner on Craigslist being parted out and i got the mub flaps. Check local auto wreckers, craislist and the for sale forum.
