I wonder what the additional costs are for having the ability to plug-in. Hopefully it won't be more than $2k. It would be nice for the upgraded battery. I hope Toyota will release additional specs, charge time with 110v or 220v, what the range is on pure electricity, etc.

A hybrid, or even better, the plug-in hybrid would work great for my dad's commute. He has a 10 mile one-way all city commute and there's an outlet in the parking lot too.

In Europe, 17" rims come on other models...their packages are different than ours. Foglights are common too.

The Prius plug-in can go 13 miles on all electric on one charge. Your dad's commute will use gasoline engine on the way home...still a huge saving compared to a regular car.
 
Hey Thai,

I noticed it in the pictures for quite some time, but never remember to check for it when I see the Prius in person and the one I saw was a Two or Three, so it didn't remind me to try reaching into that storage area. Then my brother pointed out again yesterday about the piss poor location of the heated seats button. I would assume the green people don't use heated seats, but Toyota probably offer them for those who wanted to try a hybrid out and like creature comforts.

Is the placement of those heated seat buttons as silly as it appears or "it's not that bad"? Personally, I would go around slap everyone who was a part of the 3rd gen Prius team for letting the placement of those buttons make to production. They could've easily placed it below the shifter near the cup holder door on the center console.
 
Yeah, it is THAT stupid of a placement! :( Thank goodness here in Texas, i don't use it much! I am sure that it was an after-thought. BTW, try and find those buttons AT NIGHT! :(
 
That sucks and they didn't even make them lit. :bash:

I probably won't need them either in CA. Prius Five is at the top of my list for a car.
 
With the federal tax incentive, I might be able to get a plug-in for close to what the regular one costs. It certainly is tempting considering that all my driving is either 200 mile jaunts to my parents' or <10 mile drives to work and my inlaws.
 
This morning, i had an emergency at the hospital...so, i went a little bit fast in my Prius. I took a picture of my last 11 miles on the highway...11.4 miles, 84 mph average speed, and getting 37.8 mpg!

Acquired taste! :D I never thought much of Prius until the redesigned 2010 model...and then my job requirement changed making Prius more attractive. Never looked back since. Practical, smooth, frugal, safe, and has a very good sound system. And as the economy is going to the pits, i am glad that i have the Prius!

In fact, among all current Toyota vehicles, ONLY the Prius scored top scores on ALL crash tests (IIHS, NHTSA, and Eurocap)...a rarity, even among the other manufacturers!
 
Have you looked into:

1. How long will the batteries last for?
2. How much will replacements cost?
3. Will it still run & what kind of MPG w/o batteries?

So, after 10 years and 208,000 miles, the original battery is still in near perfect condition. This is why there are plenty of stories of cabbies running well over 300k miles on the original battery and still going! :)

BTW, the current hybrid battery is much more advance than that battery tested above...and reliability has been even better!! :)
