I bought the wheels awhile ago off CL. The seller had five wheels with 5 Michelin 275/70 tires. He wanted $350 for the five but I told him that I just really wanted the wheels so he was going to take the tires off but he changed his mind, to much of a pain, and asked me if I wanted the whole set for $325...SOLD!
4 of Michelin's were in pretty good shape and the fifth was brand new. I sold the four for $200 and got $75 for the new one.
So the five wheels only cost me $50...WOOHOO!
Decided to have them professionally painted at a local shop. Steel grey was my color of choice with a lot of metal flake in the paint which I like.
Cooper Discoverer STT 285/75R 16 was the tires I decided on with much research and figuring in what kind of driving I will be doing.
The tires have a good ride on the Hwy but my gas mileage went to hell. I was getting about 20-22 mpg on the interstate and now it is about 16-17...maybe. Oh well you only live once.
They fit like a glove! I can put my hand flat and slide it in between the tire and UCA. The only place the rub is on the driver side front, the plastic valance under the bumper. The tire only rubs sometimes when I am making a right turn. It will be an easy fix to trim the plastic.
I have only had them off road once on some logging roads that were covered with ice and snow and they seem to be pretty aggressive. I can't wait for the eastern Oregon desert. Hopefully with in the next few weeks.
I have had them on for only nine days and have had 5 people stop me in the gas stations and store parking lots wanting to talk about my tires and wheels.
Just yesterday in the Bi Mart parking lot, as I was coming out of the store, I had a husband and wife that were also driving a 4runner, looking at my set. As I approached I said jokingly "Hey stop looking at my tires!" they both laughed. He said he had a set of the STT's once and really liked them.
We ended up talking for about a half an hour and I told them about T4R.org. They never knew about this site and she ended up writing it down. I told them I was going to post my tires and wheels so if you are reading this, it was great talking to you!
