It was the first AMG version I'd seen in person - I must admit it looked a lot better in person IMO than in pics on the computer. However I only got to see the butt shot and side shot, never got to see the front of it cuz the guy was hauling ass from every stoplight where I'd catch him

serious question here, why buy something else other than a 4 Runner after seeing your love and respect for the vehicle?
After all the vehicles I have gone through, I see no reason to buy any other SUV, unless I want to get a sports car as a second vehicle.

Trust me, i have a deep respect for Toyota SUVs (the real ones). I have debated for months between LX470, GX470, Range Rover, G500, and Jeep Rubicon. Months and months. Numerous testdrives. After driving my 4runner, i felt that i need to try something different. I want to try a vehicle with lockers. Thus, the Rubicon was on the list also. But the Rubicon is just too rough for long trips (which i do often). The G500 offers lockers and all the safety features. It's like the LX470 + Rubicon = G500. LX470 & GX470 are excellent SUVs that were at the top of my list. I was very close to getting the LX470 but Lexus dealers did not give me a good deal (near MSRP). The MB dealer did...below invoice. In addition, the LX470 is a BIG truck...bigger than what a single guy needs. It looks weird to drive such a big truck. So, i ended up with the G-wagen...it's about the size of the 3rd gen 4runner.

Re: G500 specifications.
Ground clearance (at differential) = 8.3". Clearance under the axle = about 13". Front & rear axle diffs are offsetted on passenger side.
Approach/departure = 36/27 degrees. I can't find any info on the breakover angle...probably 24-25 degrees.
Tire size = 265/60/18. This sucks because not much selection.
Fuel economy = 13 city/14 highway. Premium.
Fuel tank = 25 gallons.

congrats on the truck. a person i know in my town has one and its silver. the truck is very exotic and very cool.
by the way have you seen the Bourne Supremecy yet?
if not you might wanna check it out since there is a awesome chase scene with a Amg G wagon in it. and boy does that truck get demolished!!!

Thai, I think one big point for the G500 is that you won't be passing yourself all of the time. I live in a small town and I like that with my 350Z and also for the moment with the 4th generation 4runner (that will change). I just hope you don't have any problem with it like they discribed in that Mercedes web site you indicated. From reading that site some guys had all kinds of problems and others didn't have any. I bet that can be attributed to the hand built nature of the G500, hope you got a good one.
