There probably is... you are in Minneapolis / St. Paul? Wow? UP Michigan? Northern Wisconsin and Minnesota? Doesn't always have to be mountains! Don't forget about Canada! Lots of kewl folks up there, and not so far away for you!
.... doesn't really matter where you are... step 1. Go to google earth and select the terrain function. Step 2. Look for a bumpy place. Step 3. Go to bumpy place and find trails!
Its what I do!
BTW... we could use some help up there for a project we are working on...

Go run a few overgrown trails and tell me how well you like your limb catcher!
(I don't have those fancy limb risers yet!)I use what works. I make modifications as needed.

I agree.. I wish I would have wheeled more when I lived down south.
There are a few places within a couple of hours of the Twin Cities for wheeling, but nothing like that.

Thank you. Its come a long way.
It was a little crowded near the road, but 15 miles down, we were at least half a mile from the nearest people. During the off season down there, you might not see a truck for days. I went all the way down one time, and only saw one other set of tire tracks... well above the tide line.
I don't know of any beaches in the area that are more secluded. I try to make it down there as often as possible. PINS is defintely a special place.

Great work on the trailer. If we ever meet, I hope you're not shirtless with rubber gloves on, lol! I think Rustoleum is the best option too. Let it get beat up and rattle can it every so often. That beach is awesome.

Scouting trip to NW Arkansas on Turkey day weekend 2010.
100 Meter Rd. This road earned its name because almost every 100 meters, there was some fallen tree or sapling growing in the trail, or an obstacle to negotiate.
The first tricky obstacle we encountered was a muddy off camber hill climb. The group leader, 6string got dangerously close to flopping over. We had to attach a winch line from a truck behind him through a snatch block to his rock sliders. This upward pressure kept him from flopping over as he re-adjusted his line with wheel turn and his winch pulling him forward.
Once we figured the line out it was relatively easy for the sure footed 4Runner.

Then we got to the rockslide...
Quite a bit of physics going on in this photo. Airbag inflated to push truck up and away from the tree it was stuck on. Hi-Lift employed to articulate rear axle to facilitate a lateral slide. Winch from another truck run through a snatch block and attached to passenger side rear of the 4Runner to pull it back up the slippery slope away from the tree. It worked flawlessly.
It took us over three hours to get past this 100 meter section of the road. Lots of stacking and removing rocks (many moved by hand, others by winch and rigging), 1 broken winch, bridge building, and general shananigans.

We started downstream a ways and followed the Buffalo River up to its headwaters.
This one came as a bit of a surprise. We were expecting it to be around 2 ft. deep.
Very neat valley. The rock formations were a very cool glimpse into history. There were a few fossils visible in the stone, and elk grazing out across the valley.
A little road thats on no map. A few small bumps, but mostly just a scenic drive in the country.

I'll be sure to take lots of pics of upcoming trips. I always travel with other makes and models, so most of the pictures taken on these trips are not 4Runners. I usually post the links to the complete trip reports.
