Stats: 1994 Toyota 4Runner SR5. 3.0 with a 5 speed attached. Around 203XXX miles.
My oil likes to dissapear. Inconsistantly. I can check my oil everyday for two weeks. Be full everyday. Then on day 15 it can be half a quart low. Ill fill it up. Check it two days later and it has three quarters low. Fill it up and check it again every day for a week and it will be full. Then then next day it will be half a quart low again.
This is just an example of how crazy inconsistant it is. Now most of the time I cant smell burning oil. But some times I can, sometimes bad, sometimes not so bad. Ive even had comments from people that it smells like burning oil when I didnt while driving it.
This is what I have done so far:
The headgaskets were done per recall by a Toyota Dealership a few years ago
Replaced the valve cover gaskets and camshaft "half moons"
Front and rear main seal
I have visually inspeced the engine several times and see no leaks
I have added dye and black lighted it with the same results.
I have not done a compression test but I have put a sun scope on her and my firing kv and spark duration are bout as perfect as you can get. Which is soft evidence to me that the rings are ok.
The only thing I can think of that is left is the valve seals. BUt obviously I cant just take off a cap and take a look. Which is why I am here to get some imput and possibly a direction
On a side note: I have been doing research on getting a set of new complete heads with a slightly more aggressive cam. Its expensive, but I am hoping that it will put new life into the engine. (I dont want to do an engine swap and this time due to money and down time is not possible)Thoughts on that and a good place to look for such items would be appriciated. Thanks ahead of time for your help, I am pulling my hair out here.
