I had pretty much the same front lift on a 1st gen and hit the cross bars plenty of times on rocks and never had to worry about hitting the diff. That front diff is very well protected.
The stock cross bar took a beating this weekend, and a couple of time the front diff area was packed with broken ice. This east coast wheeling is hard on our 4Runners. I'd feel a lot safer with a full skid plate, belly pan, etc.
The extra lift from the new tires will help alot! Looks pretty anemic on those 31" A/Ts now...LOL
