My recently acquired 3rd Gen!!

For my first thread, I figured I would just show off my newly acquired ride. I recently sold my 2011 Tacoma so we could buy my wife a new Rav4, but I couldn't deal with not having a truck (or SUV) around for myself. So, I sold our Camry and bought a 4Runner! They are extremely hard to find around here in this shape with VERY minimal rust. It's a 2000 Limited with all new leather on the interior, immaculate carpet, Weathertech mats, E-Locker, sunroof, and much more! I was pretty excited to find it. Only 168k miles to boot!

In the past 1k miles, all of the following parts/services have been added and completed using ALL Toyota parts where applicable: timing belt, water pump, front lower control arm assemblies, lower ball joints, rear axle seals, valve cover gaskets, front shocks and springs, rear shocks and springs, spark plugs, plug wires, Hayden external trans cooler, all fluids exchanged (trans, coolant, p/s fluid, brake fluid, rear diff, transfer case, front diff), fuel filter, air filter, PCV valve, all 3 drive belts, rear brake shoes (resurfaced drums as well), LED hredeadlamps, LED reverse lamps, TRD style wheels, and Falken Wildpeak AT3w tires in 265/70r17. Am I missing anything here as far as maintenance goes? I feel like I've got it all covered.

I'll try to take some more pictures later on, but this is all I had on my phone. I bought it with every intention of driving it until the wheels fall off, but everything I own is for sale, LOL!

I saw a new trans cooler. I'd go ahead and replace the radiator too. The corrosion that causes Pink milkshake is still there and that's no good for proper/efficient cooling.

I will probably replace the radiator at some point, just can't see doing it right now with no signs at all of internal leakage. I also replaced the steering rack bushings with Energy Suspension poly bushings. Quite an improvement over the worn out factory bushings.

Replace the radiator with OEM or Koyorad 1998, as well as radiator hoses, plus thermostat and gasket, jiggle valve @ 6pm, get a ScangaugeII or equivalent to monitor stats, replace rear diff breather and/or relocaxte to higher ground, lube the drive shafts. Otherwise, good job!

Forgot to mention that I did the diff breather mod. I relocated mine to a different location than where most on here recommended, but it serves the purpose just fine. Driveshafts are lubed up. I considered throwing some new u-joints on it as well. Probably overkill for now, though.

This was actually a huge part of the deal for me. I've been working around cars for virtually my entire adult life and I see how neglected some of them are day in and day out. I was a technician for our local Toyota dealership for several years and quickly began to realize that you can tell a whole lot about how someone maintains their vehicle as a whole just by looking at their interior. Not to say I have anything AGAINST dirty interior, but my OCD sure does love for it to be clean!

The front double cardon is not rebuildable. Pretty much once the shaft goes you need a new oem or full aftermarket shaft. Cheaper than oem.

If radiator is original I would replace it and run trans cooler in series.

Unfortunately, the first sign of internal leakage is often the destruction of the transmission.

A new radiator is $100 and takes about an hour to install.

Cheap insurance, IMHO.

I agree, which is why I bypassed the radiator and chose to solely use the external cooler. I don't think people understand just how rare the pink milkshake really is. After 8 years as a technician - with the VAST majority of vehicles I have worked on being Toyota's - I have never seen a single one. I also live in the rust belt. I understand that it can and DOES happen, but not nearly as often as the forums lead people to believe.
