My runner pops out of 4wd all the time

ITs a 97 speed 4wd no locker, is this common, i will be in 4h and all the sudden it shoots it out of 4h and into 2h at regular speeds. its done it many times and it does it when im NOT shifting

I had a Subaru 4x4 that used to do the same thing... it was because the tires were different sizes. The different sizes caused the drive axles to turn at different speeds and the transmission couldn't handle it so ... you know the rest

on my 99 4runner 4x4, I had an issue where it would only shift between 2L and 4L at slow speeds (< 15 mph) also becasue of tires. I had a blowout and had to replace one, the new one was same make & model & size but the increacease in tread depth was enough to make it wacky. When I finally did replace all 4 tires, I was back up to shifting in and out of 4wd up to 60 mph.

check fluid and uneven tire wear, if that's not the case it could be the selector in the case it's self, there's a little steel bit on a spring in the t/c that engauges the 4wd if it gets worn down it can cause this problems, of course this is my experience on the 3 jeep t/c's i rebuilt. could also be applicable to yota, just not sure.

its not the tires, im gonna go with with the selector being worn, thanks, i just wanted to make sure it was nothing that would ultimately lead to the demise of the runner.
