well i gave her a good fight, but i am for the most part done, just waiting on the FJ40 emblem to come in, wanted to keep the shell chrome, but noticed that it was actually starting to peel away, so i just paint matched it to the body, think it turned out good, will post one with emblem if it ever gets here

That's the first time I've seen anyone do this in a 99 grill..didn't think it was feasible but, yours turned out nice!

Yeah well done with that 99 grill. Gives an interesting shape.

My $9 harbor freight rotary tool would have exploded into pieces trying to cut that out, likely leaving me blind.

well thanks guys, it did take alot of work and thought, the shape was taken from the round front end, didnt want to box it off, thought this looked nicer, and as far as this being done, yeah after i started i stepped back and really looked at most of the others out there and then had that oh s**t moment and saw most were 98 and bellow, but it turned out pretty good, thanks for the great replies.

lol, yeah oh s**t ran through my mind alot, but it turn out nice, and thanks for the great comments, and Flifisher, i went looking for gutter gaurd at a few places, and as i was looking i remembered that that only came in a 5" width, too small, so i went to my local handyman hardware and picked up about 3' of fencing, made a template out of it being straight, then turned it sideways to make it more of a diamond shape, and cut out the final metal. Thanks again guys glad you like it.

I would never attempt this on my own... I know I would booger it up something terrible.

Anyone out there doing this mod for a reasonable price? I sure like the look and would provide cost of all materials (of course) plus a fair labor cost.

Or possible trade for some parts...

Looks great how yours has turned out-can't wait to see the emblem in place.

hey guys thanks again for the great replies, really appreciate them. And Helmuth as far as anyone doing them, i have not yet come across anyone yet, i would do them, but i need a chance to really test this out, make sure everything holds up, but if it does, which i hope it does, i will post that i am up to making them, just have to figure on a price.

Very nice. How did you fill in the hole where the crossbar was? Bondo?

lol, not the easiest in the world when i looked at it, but i used a plastic fill in piece, then lots of fiberglass to fill it in as well as the whole shell, getting rid of the lip on the inner to outer edge, then smoothed out everything with good old bondo, lot of work, thanks for the replies

ok lol so you know how you hear stories of weird stuff happening and you think that could never happen, and not to me especially. Well this is actually the 3rd time this has happen to me, im driving home from work and a freakin bird runs into me, and of all places the brand new grille, busted 2 of the bolts holding the mesh on. Just got my emblem in the mail today, so now i guess friday i will fix the grille and put the emblem on, post pics when im done.

Wow.. I always thought this was a <99 year mod but this looks pretty darn good. My grill has seen better days and this gives inspiration for the mod!
