my tire carrier build

so i didnt want to send $ that i dont have on a bumper with tire carrier so i build one i spent $100 for materials and use some scraps i found in my backyard:lmao:

2 2x2 3/16'' angle iron and a tow hitch for a honda delso

weld the angle iron together to make square tubing

cut some off for got the length

weld together

the piece i cut

2 1.5'' angle iron for the vertical bar

piece of a tow hitch i cut off for the tire mount

1'' square tube for the support bar

finish with the tire on and test swing out

all i need is a lock pin for it

I always like to see a new idea, and this isn't a method I've seen before. Only downside I can see is keeping the factory hitch kills a bit of the departure angle, but probably the easiest method I've seen done with out a full bumper build or lots of body modification to move it to the Surf's location.

yea thats the only bad thing i thought to about the tow hitch is the departure angle the reason why i wanna to have a tire carrier is because i up graded to 35s and theres nowhere to put it and i didnt want to spend money on a bumber with a carrier because i want to regear first so yea

i use a falken car tow hitch heres a pic

i only use the end piece that goes on to you hitch

yea it sags down a 1/2'' i say but i thinkk its because the hinge parrt they put plastic washers and thats where its kinda loose from ima try to put real washers and see what happens and for the pin i dont no yet thats the only thing i dont have but proly just gona put it on the end that come out

I was thinking you could build a bracket on the drivers side of the hitch.... a 3 sided box that the long tube could settle into. then just get yourself a positive locking pin and bolt from the top. or box in the end and drill a hole in it and use the locking pin from the side.

yea man sounds good just depends on how lazy i am now lol i was thinking about using a old fashion gate latch where u lift off the lock hole and slide lol idk yet thanks for the idea man

haha don't be lazy... its probably the easiest thing you've done on this project.
