My Tire Situation (I know...I know...)

It's not unique, but I've searched and read about quite a few similar situations and haven't made up my mind yet.

The current situation: I have Firestone destination LE2s in stock size (265/70/R17) on 2011 SR5 rims, OME lift, JBA UCAs, and Spidertrax 1.25" spacers. Nothing rubs, tires aren't filling the wells as much as I'd like. My truck is an SR5 with the OEM mud flaps and rocker molding.

I'd like to keep the flaps and rocker molding. I have some 2018 Trail wheels that I plan to add with new tires (should tuck the wheels very slightly). The current tires are even with the outer edge of the flaps and the front tires clear the front wheel well liner and the mud flap by about an inch at the closest point through its range of motion. So no rubbing whatsoever.

So...my dilemma arises because I'd like to fill the wheel well a little more. I've chosen the Yokohama Geolander A/T G015 as a well rated, good fit for my purposes. I'm trying to decide between the 265, 275, or 285 version (/70/R17).

I'm wondering how much additional space the new tires with new tread at these sizes will take up. Is it worth the risk of rub to fill the wheel well a bit? Has anybody used these tires in a similar setup? Can I make them rub free with minimal modifications while keeping my mud flaps?

What say you 4R brain trust?

If you only have an inch of clearance, I'd call that pretty well filled.

Falken Wildpeaks LT275/70R17 C

Falken is coming out with wildpeaks in 275 C range in Q4 of this year. I emailed Falken about a week ago and they confirmed. The 275 Falken will be:

Overall diameter 32.4 inch
-Section Width 10.8 inch
-Approved rim width 7- 8.5 inch
-Tread Depth 18/32nds

So it might be a perfect size for those who don't want to second guess 285's with rubbing/body mount chop. These will be large 275's.

Here's 285 70 ridge grapplers with a 0-3 fox lift set to probably around 2.25". No rubbing but starts to get close to the sway bar...was thinking about 285 75 but pretty sure those would rub on the sway bar.

If you put on the trail rims and the 275/285 70s rub (turned while compressed), you may be able to remove the spidertrax spacers and remedythe rub. Since the larger foot printed tires will protrude a bit more, you may not be upset with the stance.

I’ve done a lot reading through the stickies and other posted here as well as comparing the different tire sizes and wheel offsets with the online calculators. I’m leaning toward the 275s based on the comments here, but I think I’ll have someone drive it for me and move the steering through it’s ranfe of motion to make sure I don’t have more or less space than I think. I think the real question is how the new tires with full tread compares to the current ones and only trying them on will answer that. Maybe I’ll try 285s and take out the spacers if I can’t solve the rubbing. Thanks for all your ideas!
