My truck got keyed!

Well took the second road trip in recent weeks....this time with the wife and our 2wk old bay...yeah 2 weeks old. This time to my home town Chicago to lay my dad to rest and at some point my 4Runner got keyed. I'm not sure when it happened and I should have asked the hotel for footage. Its a couple feet long after throwing some waxes and hand buffing it the deepest parts are still there. Its deep enough that its going to need to painted to fix right. There is also a gouge on the quarter panel edge. Looks like they started on the passenger side and went across and up to the edge ......I was pretty pissed off about it but had enough going on. Im heading to a few body shops today to get a couple quotes.

It may not look bad but the scratch is deep enough that it catches your fingernail. I first thought maybe it was an accident but after trying to hand buff it out I dont think so.:tsk:

Do you know when it happened?

If it was the parking lot of a business, they might have video of the person(s) doing it.

Or maybe a neighbor has security camera video.

We got to Chicago 1am Thursday morning...it wasn't there Thursday night...but i didn't notice it till Saturday and we were all over the place that few days. So no way of telling.

Dude that totally sucks ! people are just so jealous and whatever. I'm not sure why we get tested like this sometimes especially compounding issues with your sad trip and I'm sure this didn't help. you never know how life works , maybe it was meant to take your mind off things, or reminder from your pops to not sweat the small stuff.

Battle scars i don't mind when i do them myself lol. But ill get it fixed soon. Just got the final word on a great new job today,add that to our new baby and we do have some good news among the recent bad news.

re video: doubt they will give to to you. REI here in denver cited some kind of b.s. when my car was broken into in their lot in plain sight of the cameras. downtown denver has video cameras which def had the thieves the next day going from store to store using a credit card they found in the glove compartment and cloned. got the same b.s from the Downtown Business Partnership (or whatever it is called) about not being able to share this video.

I do at times, only touchless ones though. But i didn't go through a car wash at all during my trip.

Being a detailer I have worked wonders on cars that have been keyed. Depending on how deep the scratch is, majority of those scratches could be wet sanded and buffed out. All the other scratches that are too deep can be properly touched up with the right tools than wetsanded and buffed then touched up one last time than touched up with clear. I would bring it to a certified detailer and see what they can do but if you want to file it with insurance that's fine too! :cheers:
