My V8 is loving $1.62 a Gallon Fuel!

^^I'm actually on a trip to the mainland so I don't know the weather in Hawaii, but I enjoy the cold. It's 30 degrees where I am now and beautiful.

I'm just ready for a change, that's all. 30+ years in one place, especially when you don't like the ocean or the humidity is enough to wear you out.

I worked with this guy that was a weight lifting programmer, drove a Tahoe, used it for his boat.

I had my panties in a knot over mpg, he said, "You drive what you are going to drive" meaning, whatever vehicle you buy, you are probably going to drive about the same amount.

So, take the distance you drive, in a year say, and see how much the different mpg and price of gas is gonna save you. And it isn't going to be a shocker, the less distance you drive, the less important the price of gas or mpg matters.

Now if I could only not change jobs between buying cars.

In other threads where people are complaining about their low MPG, there's always a comment or two saying that if you care about MPG you shouldn't drive a 4runner. My view is that I'm going to drive a 4runner no matter what, and if I do I might as well maximize mpg or enjoy low gas prices. I can afford to drive it when gas is $4 or more, but I sure like when it's cheaper, or when I uses less for the same distance.

When gas is cheaper, more trips become worthwhile. Yesterday I drove around for no reason, and I didn't really find anything interesting since most of the forest service roads were closed for the winter, and by the time I found an open one it was getting dark. I wouldn't have gone on that trip (about 100 miles) if gas was $3.50 like it used to be. At the current price, why not?

I'd love to also have a little car like a Honda Fit in addition to my 4runner, but I drive so little it's not worth the extra cost. I might as well just drive the 4runner all the time and pay a bit more for gas, rather than own two cars and par more for cars, maintenance, insurance, registration, parking, etc.

I used to think, and did, exactly the same for years. But, there were times where my 4runner was not as fun or fully utilized as the other cars. For me, I love driving the AWD V8 4runner on the snowy roads/fields, off road adventure, towing the boat to the fishing honey holes - the list goes on. But, in a windy day and long distance, high speed cruising trip (300+ miles), I found that a low profile sedan with better gas mileage is more fun (and more saving) to drive.

Back to the subject, it's definitely nice to fill up my car with the Silver/89 @ $1.90 per gallon. At the same time, like the previous posters, I m a bit concerned about the effects or consequences of this low gas price on our economy and our people. Hopefully this is far, far from what happened in early 2009.

It sucks to say it but the lower this price gets the less exploration and developing the oil majors will fund. Which when the current consumption catches up to that it will create a supply shortage. OPEC will be laughing their a$$ off as the sell us $150 barrel oil. And we will be saying. "Man I wish gas was $3 a gallon again". So for the sake of many hard working Americans, Drive the crap out of your V8 and drive fast and use fuel. And if you lose control and have to crash try to land on a nice soft Prius.
