Mysterious two plugs unknown purpose

Does anyone know what these two plugs are for? they are located right above the glove box on a 1999 toyota 4runner limited with automatic transmission. The SR5 manual 4runner does not have the other end of plus in the wiring harness. Now without them, it will not let the engine run.

Not exactly sure what you are trying to do, but the only way to know for sure is to get the fsm wiring diagram for both vehicles and match the wiring up. I could guess it is for the auto transmission park/neutral switch or the shift solenoids,but you should never guess with wiring.

I agree, I am trying to get my hands on a wiring diagram. I rolled my 4runner and put my SR5 frame/ powertrain under a new body. The new body was a automatic and the frame is from my manual. those two plugs are on the automatic body, however my wiring harness from the manual did not have those two plugs, I am therefore missing the two and I believe they are a possible reason as to why the engine will not try and start. Reason for this thought is because when the key is in the on position, the check engine is not on. As if it is not registering it is there or something.

Did you swap out the ecu as well? When I swapped my auto to a 5peed I had to rewire the starting circuit from the park neutral switch to the clutch start. Mine is a 97 so I cannot help you with the wiring details. You are going to have to get a wiring diagram to get it right,but it is not hard.

Okay, that makes sense as to why the check engine light and fuel gage are not registering? do you know if not having them will prevent engine from running?

I did swap the ECU, I currently have the Auto shift lever hanging to the side plugged in with the switch position in park to try and make the car think it is in neutral, possibly this is the problem?

Here is what you have. Everything from your ecu going forward into your engine and transmission is correct. What you need to figure out is how to mesh your auto body harness to the ecu and transmission harness. Your starting circuit on the auto runs through the park/neutral switch so you either have to ground the park wire or run it to your clutch start switch . Every year was a little different for wiring so you are going to need a wiring diagram for both vehicles to truly figure it out. Hopefully they are the same year!

Basically, IIRC, those connectors are FROM the Main Wiring harness TO the Body ECU.

Tied into all that, is the climate control, radio, gauge cluster, etc etc.

I feel that it has something to do with the auto transmission, going to the 4WD ECU, ABS, all that jazz.

That could explain why your gauges aren't working.

I am still a little confused about how you could still have your park neutral switch still hooked up. Am I right in thinking that you have the manual transmission, manual wiring harness and a manual ecu? All the wiring in your auto body for the auto transmission is now defunct. On my 97, the transmission harness and the engine harness are wrapped into the same bundle so when I swapped to the manual harness the park neutral switch was no longer on the truck. Just concentrate on what the manual ecu needs to run. Some of the wiring in the auto body is not needed now but some of the wiring between the auto and manual is shared and that needs to be in the proper place on the ecu.
