Mystery broken peice - Help ID location

Hello,

This fell in my face from the front driver's side while I was doing some prep to change lower control arms.

Does anyone know if it was originally mounted to anything to help hold the downpipe or just clamping the exhaust joint? Hard to tell from the condition.

I was planning to just throw a hose clamp on any joint I find without anything left on it but want to make sure it didn't have another purpose. Thoughts?

Yep - I just had mine fall off of my cat shield on the driver's side. Likely the same part used in both places. Toyota wasn't able to locate the replacement part for my vehicle (I'm sure the PN for a 4th gen would work which was available). I used a stainless steel hose clamp. it will last longer than the truck and never fall off again

Thanks for the peace of mind. I wasn't able to locate an exhaust joint without a clamp so makes sense that it was just holding a sheild in a past life.

Considering my heat sheilds have been flaking off one by one like a bad sunburn one by one for the last year, not suprised it gave up the ghost. A heat sheild bouncing around againts a driveshaft is still one of the worse car noises I've heard by far!
