Looks and feels a bit weird. You get so used to not having anything there and just sliding out and now it's almost like they're in the way Have to get used to them for sure.

I like how you angled it going up slightly instead of going straight out. Let's see how many times you get mud or dirt on your legs now.

I need some input from anyone who's willing to give it. I know...it's a little late to ask about this now. Kind of kicking myself. At least the comment about the angle from
Dawg4runner helped, so thank you.

If you look back at these three photos, it might help explain what I'm talking about.
I didn't get the desired look with these like I initially thought I would. I understand it's not all about looks, as they're designed to protect my rocker panels.

My concerns are that they seem too short. When I had them put on I wanted them set even between the front and rear fenders. This is where they're set, but they just look short. When I compare them to others, I can see that they're not as long.

Also do they appear to be sticking out too far? I wanted them out about one inch in from the offset of my tire. They are set the way I asked but good lord it sure seems like I've bruised the crap out of my calves for as many times as I've forgotten them and slid out of the truck.

My last concern is the color. The color I chose is black, but when it dried it dried to this crackle black that's actually dark grey. Liked it when they were off the truck. Now that they're on the truck, I don't like it. I think this is an easy fix. I'll just get down there and repaint them.

So...thoughts? Should they be taken off and reset? Am I being too anal?

The angle looks good, the distance sticking out looks good. Hard to tell from the pics but the gray seems a little on the light side if you're trying to match the roof rack. I know that's an easy fix for you. It does look kinda short to the rear. What's the overall length of the slider? Mine are 67 1/4" overall and about 3" from the edge of the fender, front and rear.

Thanks for measuring! I was looking online for different ones just to see how long they are but couldn't find anything. I'll go measure mine and see what the difference is.

67" is pretty darn long!! hehe

Ok, Dave - I measured my SLIDERS and they are 58" in total length. 7 1/2 inches from the edge of the fender, front to rear.

Yes those are short. I agree, that color looked good off your truck, not so much on. And yes after being used to no running boards, you will hit your legs on them for a while when egressing the vehicle.

That being said, you're a capable woman, so bottom line, if you're not satisfied, address it. Don't settle when it comes to your truck or you'll never be happy.

I didn't want to say anything at first because I don't like making judgements towards others interests. Now that you've shared your doubts I have to say they are pretty short terri. IMO If you were to travel over a rock that was tall enough to get up into your rocker panel odds are it has the potential of A.) getting caught between the front of the sliders and the back of the front tire, and B.) If you were sliding on a rock once you get to the end of the slider you have 7" of unprotected rocker panel.

And while were talking about these sliders, Typically you should have a reinforcement plate between the frame rail and the three supporting tube's as well as a gusset on top of the three supporting tubes reinforcing any loads the sliders see back to the frame. similar to this :View attachment Part1.pdf

The offset you have seems good from what I can see from the pictures You want it to stick out about an inch past the body to protect in the situation of sliding into a tree (or to stop those pesky shopping carts and people that park to close and open there door into your tuck lol) and as you said you can change the color if it's not to your liking

If you decide to go a different direction, talk to the company you purchased them from see if A.) do they have longer options? if so will they trade out for a paid difference? B.) see if they'll offer a refund of any kind. If you go with 4xinnovations they have 66" sliders for our trucks (thats what I run and they could stand and extra inch or two (until I get bigger tires)) To remove the ones you have just take a saw zaw or cut off wheel and cut the three supporting tubes as close to the frame as you can then take a grinding wheel and grind the frame wall back flat you'll be good to go for a different setup at that point.

If you can't get a refund or any help from the company. you may be able to sell these to someone with a jeep or any off-road style vehicle with a shorter wheelbase (maybe an FJ cruiser not sure what there measurements are) Just try not to remove to much length from the supporting tubes during removal.

It stinks when you go for the order and get the parts an install then decide it's not quite what you want. I've delt with it a few times (hell even had to take apart my rear axle 3 times to get the locker setup right eerrrgghh lol) But its definitely not worth settling over gotta make it right!

Thanks, PD and Austin! First let me say that my husband is going to shoot me. So if I stop posting tonight, you'll know why.
He knows how I am though and that I can be overly particular. He's used to it for the most part... or just deals with it.

It's frustrating but it's good to know that others go through it too. I should have researched it more. I never once thought about the length. Good thing is, is that I didn't pay an arm and a leg for them.
Another good thing is, thanks Austin, is that I have a neighbor that off roads his jeep down at Tuttle Creek in KS. He goes a lot. He totaled his jeep a few months ago and this new one he's got already has new wheels and tires and a 3" lift. Maybe as a good neighbor I can just see if he wants them. Good karma, right?!

Thanks for the input though. You're both right. If it doesn't look good to me, it's not worth leaving it. I put them on and right away was not happy. Guess that's a sign.

Ha! Yeah, he's got the same reactions as some of these wives have. Just shakes his head when I talk about anything new. But deep down I know he likes driving it, as I'm sure your wives do too

It's my fault. One minor detail I should have checked out while I searched...the length.
I just don't like it, so they're going to be removed and either sold or given away.

I'm sure you can find an owner of an older toyota or shorter vehicle to buy them? Maybe an FJ? Obviously you'll lose some money.. but maybe not too much since you'd be saving the buyer shipping and time.

Well those cheap ones you saw, Matt, were probably these. 58 is what they measured and they were only about $200.

I'd really like to get some new ones. Longer ones. I could kick myself, but whatda ya do now? It's okay.

Do you think they'd fit a 3rd gen? Sure wish I knew more 4runner owners local that they could go to. I'd just give them.

I wish I had taken my camera. I went out and played in the snow again tonight. Areas that were at least 2 feet deep and I had not one problem getting through it.
Very very happy with the way my new tires handled it!
