Name that switch!

Their is two switches on my 1993 Hilux Surf SSR-X (4Runner SR-5) in the middle of the center console. One controls the the rear window but I have no clue what the other one does.

Would it happen to be labeled "ECT"? If that's the case, I'm assuming you have an automatic, and pressing the ECT button will make the engine rev higher before shifting to a higher gear. For one thing, you'll be able to accelerate more quickly.

Nope, it's a 5 speed.

The lettering has worn off.

It's not a fog light switch because I don't have them.

I just can't think of anything else.

the ? looks like the rear window lock switch

in the 95+ versions that switch is no longer installed and replaced by another coin holder.

Yeah, its probably the window lock. Does it have an "in" position and "out" position? In that case its probably a window lock out. If not it could be a clutch cancel button so you don't have to hold the clutch in while starting. My dad's old 1st gen had one but it was located on the dash. Maybe they relocated it?

i dont think its a clutch lock button, due to the fact that even the newer sticks had the switch always on the dash panel.

I just got a runner tonight with those same switches in a 5-speed. I'm curious as to what that middle one is to also. And I have used the search option, hence how I found this thread.:boom:

It's the rear window lock-out switch. My '88 has the same set up.

So does my 91. It is the lock for the rear window. 100% thats is what it is

When saying lock out, what is meant by that? Like if it's locked out, you can't use your key of it or what? Makes no sense to me.
