Oh boy... is there any antifreeze in your oil?? pull the dipstick and verify.. If so. get that oil out of the block.. Antifreeze is very hard on engine bearings.

I would agree that you may have a blown gasket. Didn't you have that head redone not that long ago?

I didnt notice any, but I may go ahead and drain in anyway, for its first oil change after the rebuild.

I fired a 3rd gen up after it sat for a quite a while.. I saw the good old white smoke. Pulled the stick saw the milk. Shut it down, pulled the oil out. Drained the coolant system. Then put the oil back in so I could load the rig onto a trailer to tow it home. That particular Rig of mine has a bad torque and the engine and tranny both were overheated by a previous owner. So thats a project for a few years down the road..:D

I already have 2 of mine, in my garage at the moment.. As you can see I have quite a fleet. :D
 
So what are you thinking that might be plugged?? Maybe it was overheating because the head gasket blew and your burning antifreeze. That would drop your coolant pressure to near zero if it went. :-(

Man that's a little project pulling a head off.. Maybe you can pressure test the coolant system and see if you can see which cylinders its leaking into.. An inspection camera should let you see into each cylinder to find the culprit.

Just some thoughts..:-)

Ill probably start by compression testing the cylinders, and see if I can find one that has lower pressure then the rest.

At this point, the only thing I can think is that there is a blockage in one of the cooling passages in the block. Like maybe I left a rag in an opening during the rebuild, or one of the drain plugs got put in to far.

That is something I would have done..:D I am glad I am not the only one that has things go not quite as well as we expect it to go.

Might be leaking across 2 cylinders. Bummer

I think I figured it out. I didn't realize the head gaskets are side specific and it looks like I have them on wrong.

This is blocking my tstat return line.

So just now ordering the parts to replace the driver side head gasket.

You thought it was a blocked and it was. Good job.. :-) Is the passenger gasket ok?
 
Currently have couple of projects going on.
Have been getting some misfire codes P0300 with a selection of P030xs. So i am running some fuel injector cleaner and will clean the MAF. The truck seems to be running fat so I am thinking the plugs are getting fouled on starts and then cleaning up once the engine gets some heat in it.

More excitingly,
I have cut the rockers off and am working on putting some new ones that can function as sliders as well

Rocker sliders. Daul purpose rockers. Not a bad idea. Did you just loose your front rockers or did you loose both your front and inner rocker?

The inner rocker was actually pretty good, it looked like most the rust was from the sidesteps holding salt against the body.

Looks good. Lots of folks goto square tubes for their rocker replacements. I went square tubes inside my outer rocker to regain strength and then covered it back over. :-)
 
Just been driving around slowly working on issues that pop up.
Of interest this week I stopped at a pick and pull and grabbed a whole set of 2002 sport wide flares. Im currently working on figuring out how to attach them to my vehicle since I dont have the push pin holes in the body of the vehicle. Im thinking ill just use a drill and them myself.

How I did it was get the front fenders bumper and doors. This left only the back limited flares. I drilled and bolted them on.

I would do 2 bolts in each piece. The front fenders should basically bolt on using existing hardware. The doors will need drilled along with the rear fender flares.


As I done this because the limited fender flares keeps the rig so much cleaner.

I used stainless bolts and nuts and sliconed the area where the holes were to seal out water etc.. I need to see if I have any photos of the bolting of the rear ones on. If you want to see those photos let me know. ;)

Yeah if you have some photos that would be great.

I am looking to see if I could maybe even rivnut the flares, and then come in from the back side with a bolt. This seems easy for the fronts but not sure about the rears. But do think I could do something like that for the doors. like being able to bolt the metal support bracket to the door, and then instead of riveting the door flare to the bracket, bolt it on.

With the spacers I am running, the sr5 flares just dont offer enough protection from mud and dirt. And the rear flares dont fit with my new rocker panels.

Ok. I see if I can get them. You pull the plastic out of the cargo area and you can bolt the rear on that way. That's how I did it. The silicone just seals it up good..:)

I cant find the photo of the bolted on cladding. I actually bolted the bolts to.the cladding and the bolted it to the steel. Sorry I cant find the photo of it. :(

Have you thought about putting mud flaps on the front? Ever since I took my running boards off my limited and drive on gravel roads my rear fender flares are pitted from gravel hitting them. I put some universal mud-flaps on, but they aren’t long enough to keep the mud, road crud, gravel etc off the doors or rear fenders. Debating if I should try to find some longer mudflaps off a Tacoma.

Funny you should mention that. I actually was considering it yesterday as I was mounting up the sport flares to the front. I think i may get some generic flaps to cut to fit, my one concern was clearance to the tire, it seems like 33s with no body lift get a bit close to the body.

No worries! You came in through the inside of the body for the rear arches? How did you line up the holes to the flare?
