nasty sound on one year old clutch

Yesterday my 86 4runner to ran into some major issues and I'm not sure what is causing them and if they are related. First off, when I started my truck up last night I heard a squeeling fan buzzing in the back section of my engine and then when I engaged the clutch it made this absolutely awful screeching sound. I am not familiar with manual transmissions enough to understand my problem. Secondly, and I'm not sure if they are related was that earlier in the day I was making a left turn and my car totally died on me. No power. I was able to pull into a parking spot and after running some errands came back and it started right up. I have been having some issues recently where it doesnt seem like my battery is getting a charge because after a two hour drive my truck has issues starting right away. Any advice will help. Thanks
