I recently put on a coat of 100% carnauba wax to the body and a coat of rain-X to the windshield.

Both the carnauba wax and rain-X was totally wash off from one night of straight hard rain. This wash off happened in less than a week after spending a whole sunday afternoon detailing.

So before I do this again and waste another sunday afternoon. Isn't there something better carnauba wax. Maybe something synthetic?

Search through the detailing forum and you'll see lots of threads about Griot's Best of Show and Zaino's. These seem to be the top two brands for the exterior. But we're not going to turn this thread into yet another Zaino's/Griot's debate -- we've had enough of them.

You'll also find lots of information about the clay bar. It's great to prepare for the polish and wax.

It has alot to do with prep work. A lot of carnubas are very durable now days . I cant answer for rain X , but with the wax there is something wrong ..... what the heck did you use ? That should never happen.

I bought some 100% carnabu wax.

After this particular post. I done some extensive research on waxing. Available are: (1) natural wax, (2) blend of wax/polimer, and (3) full synthetic polymer.



Bottomline is:

Natural carnabu wax have a deep glossy shine to it but don't last very long and should be reapply about every other month to keep it showroom shined. This stuff is great for dark car that requires such deep gloss.

Synthetic polymer doesn't have the same deep gloss of carnabu. However it does a much much better job of protecting the paint from the enviroment. Reapplication are typically 6 month interval or 12 month interval.



Since I don't have as much time to devote to as with my last car. Which was a dark car. Good thing this 4runner happens to be silver. Light color don't need the deep gloss - so I am going with a straight full synthetic polymer. I am done with natural carnabu wax.

I get at least three months out of carnuba wax. I'm using the Meguiar's Deep Crystal wax, step 3. The car is left outside and I get a lot of fog here. For the shine, I've read many will use a synthetic wax and then put a coat of carnuba for the depth and wet look.

Rain-X lasts a couple weeks here as well. Usually water doesn't bead as well after two weeks. But it's effectiveness is due to dirt sticking to the glass. Spraying the windows down helps with improving its effectiveness a bit.

I use FK 1000p and every coat looks like it was sprayed with another coat of clear. Excellent shine , wet , durability.

They also offer a blend product called Pink wax .

being into detailing very heavily I've tried alot of stuff and love the FK products line the very best for me.

you got to polish/prep you truck first before you apply any wax.

dawn wash, clay bar, polish, glaze and then wax. cant get into details how you're suppose to do it. lots of info about your scenario. just google or drop by autopia or autogeek.

oua, also there is no such a thing as a 100% carnuba wax.

Where you in Fla. carnuba type waxes will be gone very fast in sun/heat. In a matter of days. It does not hold up in heat.

Man, that's too much damn work. If you're a middle aged or older fellow just use Dawn liquid to wash (strip off old wax), polish with a non abrasive polish (NuFinish), then wax it (Meguiars NXT generation), rewax it the next day or next weekend and be done. This setup will easily last you for 6 months.

All the stuff this dude's talking about doing would make some men ache. My shoulder would get to hurting, elbow paining, back stiffing up, and heck even a pain or two down in my man jewels. My motto is this: If it takes more than 4 hours for a middle aged or older person to do something that involves work then either.......... RENT something to make the job easier for you or HIRE somebody to do job for you! Now you can sit in the shade, watch your hired help do the work and drink a few of these.....

if your looking for synthetic... try meguiars NXT generation series of products. i like them a lot and they tend to hold up for a fairly long time.
