[MENTION=34014]JLRSR5[/MENTION] is a college friend and inspired me with his 4runner build thread. It's definitely cool to see his transformations and I'd like to do the same!
Little bit of backstory. My 2010 Tundra was totaled back in 2016 by a drunk driver. The driver had taken out some other vehicles along the way and the Tundra was the end of their rampage. Thankfully no one was seriously injured, and all I had was a scratch on my hand from where the steering wheel airbag deployed.
Wasn't able to find another Tundra to my liking for the price and began thinking of getting an SUV for future family purposes. Originally looked at a 4th gen 4runner but found them a little too small. Ending up settling for a 2008 Tahoe; key word settling. No issues with the Tahoe, runs great and does its intended job well, but it didn't excite me. Guess I'm just not a Chevy guy.
hwell: The wife drives it now and it makes her day commuting with our new baby girl easier.
Anyways, got the green light to begin looking for another vehicle and always kept thinking of the 4th Gens I walked away from. After about a month of searching I found a 2006 Limited V8 4WD in Nautical Blue with 179k that was fairly local. I was wary of the high mileage, but with the help of T4R, I was able to check for any signs of potential problems and seeing some of the mileage others are getting, I thought it would be okay. It was the cleanest 4runner I had seen during the search. Rust free, and a mechanic buddy of mine was able to come check it out before the purchase. He was impressed with its condition given its age and mileage. Carfax shows all the toyota dealership records up until last year when it was sold. The gentleman that I purchased from was looking to get into a Tundra. So, I am now the 3rd owner of this 4Runner and I am very excited to start making it my own!
I purchased it stock with the exception of a Flowmaster exhaust system. Never had a vehicle with an aftermarket exhaust. Sounds cool, not sure if it really does anything. Most likely will be going for a nice clean build, no armor or anything. 3in lift, new wheels, things like that as funds allow (Baby's are expensive). Not planning to go too crazy... for now.
