NAV Radio replacement for 2011 LTD

Hey guys/gals...looking for a bit of help/info on replacing my 2011 LTD stock NAV/radio system with an updated one. Here's what it says on the window sticker off the truck about the unit, it's coded as "NV";

"Voice-Activated Touch Screen DVD System with integrated backup camera, JBL AM/FM 4 disc CD changer with MP3/WMA Playback capability, XM Radio with NAV traffic"

Big question is, will the 2016/17 NAV unit from another 4Run-LTD be a true a plug-n-play replacement for a 2011 LTD, or do I need to look for other options that's not OEM? Any help appreciated....thanks

my understanding that it is not a plug and play..
quite frankly, you can get a way better value/unit out of aftermarket headunit, imho.

The Bing interface entune is using is horrible.

Thanks, I'll probably travel to my local high-tech shop and see what they have to offer. I really want something that's going to tie into the housing/brackets, and buttons that's already on the console face, but that might be asking too much, I really don't want a botched job. I'll look around.

the buttons around the headunit are a part of the unit.
Your aftermarket stereo set up would look like this:

you CAN, however, integrate the steering wheel controls.

Not sure if I like that look. From what the shop told me, for an after-market it will be major changes, something I'm not prepared to undertake. Price isn't the problem, it's just the undertaking, and possibility for problems....don't want to deal with that. Thanks for your help......:clap2::cheers:

My question is: Can you use the blank space on the aftermarket face plate to mount switches? Is there room back there for any of that?

...I am thinking about going to an aftermarket HU this summer and doing switches for my lights, compressor, communications, and side-mount miniguns (I may have to wait on the last one).

define major? a fitment kit and wiring will set you back around 40$ total. Pac-SWIPs (steering wheel integration) maybe another 20-30..
nothing else is needed.

Ill be doing a shoot with a '16 4runner in the spring, the guy has a custom head unit, and mounted touchscreen tabs on the sides. there is a lot of cutting and customizing possible on the metra kits.

Now that sounds like something I would love to see.

Looks like the Metra and Scosche kits are pretty similar in this model.

Scosche, in my experience, is a considerably higher quality than that of Metra.

i'm not nearly as intelligent or $$ capable to do this. I'm just going to be doing a shoot for the owner..as that's what I do. :angel:

Ive yet to see those things in person, but the owner - electronics egineer - claims that those are going to be akin to the new MBP strip.

Nope. No major changes. Took me about 2 hours to install an aftermarket head unit, steering wheel control module, and XM satellite. The aftermarket head unit gives you new features you can't get with Entune. Plus, the aftermarket head unit doesn't spontaneously reboot like the Entune unit is known to do.

I have a nav head unit from a 2015 TEP that I am looking to sell for a very reasonable price. Wiring harness, dash pieces and all. I replaced it with an aftermarket unit (see my build thread).

I don't really want a new vehicle, I've customized this "11" 4Runner (from it's birth) to my likings except for the head unit, 90k+ miles and runs perfect.:dancin:
