Thing works GREAT! So yes it does work! I installed the mike just above the drivers side a-pillar, and the button by the center console.

I found the command list HERE!
plus, there are alot more functions, which you can change tracks, seek, compass mode....

j0,

I haven't been able to find this part though dealers. If you can purchase it from Japan can you let me know how much as I am definitely intrested.

A google search on 86750-44020 brought up three hits, all Japanese. I couldn't read them but I did see a photo of a Toyoto with something mounted above the steering wheel and a page of a Toyota dealership.

Also can you tell us which connector was used for this install? Any pictures of the actual wiring/connector as we might be able to just hook in a microphone that switchs on and off.

thanx,

Hey Jeff,

It;s the unused black connector on the right if your looking at the back of the nav. Not sure what the pin outs on it are though.

It is a momentary switch, and microphone. The mike has 4 wires.. (dont ask me, i didnt open the mike up, but there are 4 wires going to it...) the other is a momentary switch to turn it on...

Give me a couple days and remind me (when i get my backup camera in I got to take it apart again), The only thing is I think there are resistors in line..... (I saw a shrink wrapped piece that looked like resistors)

Well I just called my dealer and they said no way! Imagine that! So if anybody else can find it perhaps in Canada or the US that would be great!

Thanks,

Give me a couple days.... I'll try and get my friend to find out price again and availability in Japan... I could prob convince him to do it, but he would more then likely want something to do it.... Ill do it for you guys, but I'm not back for another couple months atleast.

I didn't know the built-in nav system did voice. Why don't they have that option in the U.S. models? Strange!

Anyhow, I'd really like to get my hands on that Microphone. That thing would work sweet with my (just finished) custom nav (pc-based) system.

Any chance of hooking me up with one?

lojeff: it's a zip file w/ two pdfs. I had no trouble getting it, but if you are, here are the two pdfs. (they're small)

speech command list and speech command system

cheers! and for the record, I think there's plenty of interest. I'm sure interested. I wonder if it wouldn't be too hard to just reverse engineer an existing one. If I could buy one somewhere, I'd be more than happy to post a schematic and how to make one. :) so now to figure out where to get one. Hmmm, I wonder if any of the former students from japan in our program would be willing to get one for me. I'll check into it tomorrow.

Geez.. Now I feel guilty I didnt look at it closer prior to installing it.....

I will take it apart and have it for you folks by the weekend!

hehe...sorry. didn't mean to make ya feel guilty!
it's just a cool gadget and we want to be cool like you!

hehe, I don't even care how it's wired since my main interest is getting the same microphone elment. I assume it's one that is specially tuned for use in a car. It probably response best to frequencies in the range of the human voice and filters out road and music noise. That's just my guess.

Anyhow, if it's not too expensive, I'd like to get one. Or, if you can get a part number off the internal mic element, that would be sweet too.

Thanks for any help.

Voice Nav

You might be able to purchase the part from Steve Ganz at Carson Toyota. There was a group buy earlier in the year to purchase a Voice NAV add-on that plugged into our Factory Lexus IS300 NAV systems. From the pictures it looks like the same kit. I had debated buying the Voice NAV add on. If I remember correctly, it cost $50 dollars and he special ordered the parts from Japan.

I have purchased other products for my IS300 from Steve Ganz and I can't say that I have had a better business experience anywhere else. Here is the link about the group buy:
