Navigation Radio Advise

i need some advise. i have a chance to pick up a OEM E7008 and an eclipse avn726E nav unit with bluetooth, satellite and ipod modules. both are great deals. the OEM is just the radio.

which should i get? each has its pros and cons:

the OEM does not fit the dash opening correctly, the ipod connection in the console does not work with this radio but its a oem piece and already has the jbl, needs all bluetooth stuff etc...

the Eclipse needs the mount kit, jbl amp adapter etc...

both work perfectly and are really smoking deals.

what would you do?

Neither lol. Eclipse is at least 4 years old. Maps outdated, Bluetooth and iPod are both going to have compatibility issues with streaming bt audio and lightning connectors.

I would get a new Kenwood dnx891hd. Oh wait, I just did install that yesterday lol

That's what I would do, I mean did :)
 
I have the 726e in my non-jbl 06 sport (have had it for a few years now). If i had to chose a radio today, i would still go with it, if only for the flash based maps and full steering wheel controls. Yes it is a pain to update maps, you have to go through odd third party and storage is limited so you and up having to chop up the data. And yes I have been having issues with BT, but i still enjoy it. I would replace it, but i am holding out for something with carplay. All current offerings look like a mess of odd features that probably don't have a long life once something like carplay is available.

You might want to start whipping out your wallet. Things like this have been available for 3 model years already from pioneer called AppRadio. in its third generation. Kenwood has been doing App Mode for the last two model years.

Androids have been doing this for years via MHL connectors on HTC and special adapter from samsung.
 
i appreciate the heads up on the kenwood but its a little out of my price range.

are the oem and eclipse that bad or they useable for what they are. can they be updated with newer discs?
 
The map DVD for oem will run you between 200-300. You can get an updated map DVD from toyota. At least you could in late 2010. I have a 2010 DVD in my '06. I guess you can probably get the latest up to date one. Try eBay or something tho. You may have luck there too.

How much? I've seen it online (OEM, not fleabay) for about $170.

Carplay? That is only (for now) only for new cars.

If it were me, I'd get the OEM. Why? For some reason, they don't go down in price much because it's original equipment. It's inferior than the old Eclipse, but you can always unload it on fleabay if you change your mind.
 
I vote pioneer appradio 3. Uses nav off your smartphone, so its always updated. Plus the plethora of other features.
 
anyone else have any advise on the radio selection. i need to pull the trigger asap. thanks.
