"NAVIGATION / RADIO REBOOTS HANGS PROBLEM UPDATE"

Hi all! I have read more than a couple of threads on this topic. Mine is on 2014 Limited. Last occurrence was probably 8-11 times in my 10 hour drive from VA to Boston. Worst was I hangs right when I was crossing the Nj-NY through George Washington bridge where there's like 12 different directions to exit! Good thing I had my phone nav to back me up.

Anyway, I took the 4Runner to local Toyota service and although they said they don't have an official TSB that addresses the problem they uploaded a new software update. When I look at the receipt, it has the "T-SB" designation on it. Ill post the picture of the software update receipt so everyone can see and maybe use it when you talk to your local service centers for fix.

So far I used the Nav/Radio today after the update on my 60 mie roundtrip to work and no problems. I will update this threads if theres any re occurrence of the problem.

I've been having the same thing happen, normally when I'm on the phone with someone. I'll get my dealer to look at it when I take it in at 30k miles later this month.

We have a 15' 4Runner limited and a 15 Sienna XLE NAVI- we both have iPhone 6. Current IOS And sometimes the Bluetooth will not connect or it will disconnect the phone randomly. I have to hold the power button on the radio to reboot the system.

I've been having the same problems (locking up/rebooting) and took mine in yesterday for the software update. Somehow they immediately determined that it didn't work and ordered a new head unit under warranty...

Wife's 2014 SR5 radio was cutting out. After a period of time it would reactivate. This was happening intermittently. Some days it happened; others it didn't.

Took it to dealer she bought it from today and showed them a printed copy of T-SB-0160-14. Service adviser said this was common. I was glad to not hear "we've never heard of this problem before".

Afterwards I read the invoice. Text said "Needs software update-TSB0006-14". Operation Code EL1318. According to T-SB-0160-14 - T-SB-0006-14 is obsolete and replaced by T-SB-0160-14.

I called the service dept. and spoke with the service adviser. He said that the text brought up by the OPCode had not been changed.

I'll let it go for now as I have no reason to disbelieve him. Seems like Techstream would provide a superseding patch if one were available.

The radio worked during the 30+ mile drive home. Too early to tell as this has been a sporadic issue.

Here's the TSB - covers a maze of radio/navigation issues:

One of these days I need to get my 5th gen updated. I love my 4Runners but the radio sucked in my 2008 and the radios still suck in the 5th gens. I wish Toyota could get this figured out before they go on sale.

I just updated ours on a 2016 Trail. I was pulling out of my driveway and it said "Entune requires an update" or something, so I did it. Downloaded/installed over my 4G on my bluetooth connected phone.

First few drives were fine, but Sunday on a 6hr drive it rebooted about a dozen times in 30 minutes. It would hang, reboot, show the "Toyota" screen then freeze again, and the second time the Toyota screen came up, it would proceed.

Turned the car off and back on again, still no fix. Disconnected my phone (Android) from bluetooth, and it hasn't rebooted since. My wife's iPhone doesn't cause this kind of behavior... perhaps its your phone or your phone's version of Entune?

I'm having this issue. Anyone else recently? Mine is a 2015 4runner and it comes and goes without rhyme or reason.

All the time.

There's also several threads on it.

My particular situation is exacerbated by using bluetooth and navigation together. I don't recall it ever freezing when just using the radio with my phone not connected.

It happens so often I have basically just quit caring. In the overall scheme of things it's not so important.

Thank you. I found the thread you mentioned. I'm out of warranty but intend to swing in to the dealership to see if there's an update for me. Hopefully this solves the problem and if not I think I agree with your conclusion.

Anyone had this TSB performed outside of the 3yr/36K warranty? I'm at 40K on my 2014 now. Mine has been doing this pretty much from day one, but it is so random and isolated that I never wanted to mess with taking it in and having them say I need to recreate the problem.

With all the threads about phone - nav - radio - maps - etc. updates and problems therein it should be obvious that Toyota has no clue on how this system is supposed to work. It's been a few years now and several update / fixes have failed to correct these issues; or they fix one and create 2 more.

After our free trial expired we decided to not get involved in this issue - so we have not done any of the updates. Sure it's supposed to work, but frankly it's not worth the trouble.

I was having similar problems and they did a TSB software update last week during my 15K. The OP Code they used indicates TSB 0035-16 dated May 11th, 2016. So far, so good but it's only been a week.

mmurphy77 Couple questions I was hoping you could answer for me ...

1. What phone do you use? (just Android or iOS)
2. Do you use the Entune app?
3. What year/model is your 4Runner?

I never had the problem with mine but I recently got an Android phone and it started rebooting all of the sudden. I think it's only when I have the Entune app going on my phone but I'm still trying to verify that.

No problem. My 4Runner is a 2015 SR5 with the Entune Premium. I have an Android phone (LG G4) which I have the Entune App loaded onto. I've had no problems since but the problems I was having were very infrequent (a few incidents spread over more than a year).

Thanks so much for the info!

Just bought a new 2016 Limited with JBL 2 months ago, and was telling someone last week that I was lucky that I never had the reboot happen.. Of course the next morning, it rebooted 4 times on the way to work(20 minutes)

Only did it for 2 days, then it has been good for the last week.

2016 Limited w/JBL
iPhone 6sPlus
Using Entune most of the time.

Biggest problem I have had is when I start the truck, bluetooth audio skips every second or so. Have to turn off bluetooth, then back on again, then it works.

Although since the new version of Entune yesterday, I noticed that the skipping has stopped, and haven't had a reboot in a few days.

Entune version 1.19.502, iOS, Oct 17th, 2016 seems to have fixed my problems at least.. I'm sure something else has broke though. :)

Will be taking it in for the rumored Nov 2016 update when it is available...

Just out of curiosity, is your Entune version 1.19.502 or 1.19.502.23?
