Hi,

I've got a 2003 4Runner Limited with Navi. I would like to upgrade the software. Can someone kindly advise what latest version to upgrade that's compatible to my 2003?

Happy Holidays everyone.

If you upgrade to the newest version you will NOT be able to do any overriding of the system (access while moving) without a wiring hack/mod. If you don't know what I am talking about then you probably won't care.

Your nav disc is most likely located in right side cargo area where the sub is, since that's where the ECU is for 4Runners with a two piece nav (it has a cassette deck as well) system.

I'm going to say your disc is most likely a V3 or V4 disc. I believe you need a disc of the same version, so that it matchs the same firmware generation of your nav. It would be best to get to the nav disc and get the correct version.

In researching around, the latest version would be a 2008 Update Gen3 version for my 2003 4Runner. FYI - For 2004+ 4Runner, there are other versions.

I've been looking around on ebay and there's some mixed signals I'm getting. I'll try to call Toyota up and get the correct part number, then look on ebay to see if I can get a better price.

Thanks everyone.

As the others have said, you have to buy the correct "generation" for your system. You can't upgrade the firmware simply by changing discs. All you can do is update the map and POI data.

If you're looking at eBay, make sure you're buying an "Upgrade Disc" and not a "Program Disc". The Program Disc is the one that comes with the system from the factory, and will not work for you as an upgrade. There are people out there that buy upgrades and then try to sell the disc they took out.
