I sprayed it down with degreaser and rinsed it with the water hose when the engine was cool but didnt seem to clean my engine.

i disconnect the battery take the air filter out stuff a towl down there cover the fuse box and alternator with plastic bags hose it down then spray castrol super clean let it sit for a few mins then scrub away and rinse then use a leaf blower for the excess water

I used a degreaser called "Engine Brite" that I got from NAPA. It took some scrubbing, but it got most of the bay clean. I tried some other stuff, but that didn't work as well. I've heard good things about simple green being good for cleaning engines and I might try it the next time it gets dirty under there.

simple green or greased lightning, ones as good as the other. I use them on my quads after mud runs and it works GREAT! Let the engine cool down some but while slightly warm spray it lightly then coat one of the above on it and let sit for 10 minutes or so. You wont need to scrub or anything, just spray off with a decent amount of pressure. Done this on many vehicle engines also and never had any issues from it.
