I just recently had some stereo equipment stolen and I am dealing with the insurance today. They are willing to offer me a 2 Memphis 12's (15-pr124) with a memphis amp, something like a power reference amp with like 150 x2. But they say that they have a contract with Rockford Fosgate and will hook me up with some of their stuff for the same price. They are offering like two 12's, they are P-2's and a mono amp that gets more watts, I think the model number is p-6001bd. I am thinking it is a better deal to go with the rockfords, but I have never owned them, what do you guys suggest?

Personal opinion completly but I have owned Fosgate and I hated them. The response was terrible and the quality was lacking all the way around. I would reccomend against them. However, please know that I had these about 6 years ago so they were a much older style... But regardless I generally try to stay away from cheaper audio equipment. As with most electronics you get what you pay for... But check out specs, read reviews the ones they are offering might be good. I would personally try to get some JL's out of the deal.

Also why is the insurance company offering you replacement products opposed to cash? That seems very strange to me.

Thanks for the opinion, I have began looking into a few different options. That is good to know about the fosgates. I am actually thinking about getting a fosgate amp and seeing if I can get some kicker speakers, because they have a contract with them too. I didn't even ask them about giving me cash back, because they are getting me the equipment at a cheaper price if I go with replacement stuff, and I figure I would just go that route. Why? do you think I am getting ripped off?

I would look into that I've never heard of such practice. Does that also mean if you wrecked your 4 Runner and you needed a new front end they would only offer you the front end off of a Hyundai sante fe?

Kicker is another Great company, I am actually pretty good friends with a few of the designers, engineers, and owners of the company. They are made here in my town...

Anyway, I think that is a little strange because usually when you insure something you expect to get the exact same thing when you replace it (usually) so I don't know why you would just settle( which you may or may not be doing, I dont know) for the brands the insuarance company "has a deal with." I would also want to know how this is the case, because last I checked car audio companies sold to car audio stores, not insurance companies. I would check to make sure they are buying refurbished equipment with a limited warranty or anything like that.

At the same time this might be completly legitimate, I have just never heard of anything like this before.

just get the fosgate p2 12s4, and wire them up to a 2ohm load so the 6001bd can push out 600 watts + to them, i am about to get them 12's this weekend as my bday is comin up in a few days lol. and im hookin them up to my p3001 amp at a 2 ohm load.

fosgate are decent products, even tho they dont come close to jl audio or focal, why dont u juss ask them to let u have a focal 15 inch sub in a ported box hehehehe, if u were in the bay area california i can get it for u at 400 bucks, this is focal 15inch sub in factory ported box 40lux.

Hey sorry guys for not giving you all the details on the insurance stuff, I just focused my post on the speaker stuff.

When all of the stuff got stolen, I went to my insurance company and they needed a proof of purchase. Well, ironically, I had the equipment for two years and I just lost the reciept about a month before everything got stolen. They said no reciept, no proof of purchase. But since I was able to provide some stuff like pictures, manuals, and they visually inspected the old wires and stuff, they could hook me up with something. They offerred me the same exact memphis subs that I had since I had more stuff of them, but, since they could not be sure on my amp, they are kind of shortchanging me with a cheaper memphis amp. But, during the conversation it was brought to my attention that they have some sort of system that you can pay some extra money and upgrade items, and along with this, they get some brands at lower costs than others. Memphis is not one of those brands, but Fosgate, Kicker, and JL among others are some of those brands.

So, I started thinking about some of my other options and was doing some research on some of the stuff, and I just wanted to know what you guys thought about the other brands, since I have only owned memphis. After some of your guys' posts, I am giong to double check if they will give me a money value or send me a check or something, just to have another option. Also, I don't think that the audio stuff is a direct thing with the insurance place, I have spoken with a replacement audio service, who I think that the audio people have the contracts with.

But thanks for the words of advice on this. And, since someone mentioned it, would I be better off with the JL's or Focals? so I guess I just need a poll, the best amp and the best speaker for being loud and having good sound quality- Memphis, fosgate, kicker, JL, and focal.

for sound quality get jl audio and focal, for SPL get fosgate and kicker. JL aduio and Focal is wat u should get for loud and sound quality, u should pair up a Focal 40 lux ( 15 inch sub in its ported box) with a jl audio 500/1 amp and u should b all set hehehe. too bad i dont have the money for that tho. i own jl audio and focal and rockford fosgate brand, and by far the jl audio amps with focal speakers are best, jl audio subs and and focal subs are good too. with the fosgate p2, ur going to have a feel of a jl audio w3 but with no sound quality. rockford fosgate amps are decent for dollar per watts, punch p4002 amp with the focal 40lux will be a perfect match, since the sub is 4 ohms at 400 watts, with 800 watts peak

DO NOT GET RF's. I almost bought the p2's until I heard them. Memphis' would kill them. Stay with those or JL/Alpine subs.

Go with the JL subs. Not sure about Focals but I hear that their speakers are great. Try listening to Boston Acoustics I've had their Pro series before it sounded better than the MB Quarts IMHO.

RF amps are also great never failed me but I'd go with JL amps.

WORK

i see you soon to be mods are
Mods to come:
HID headlights
JL Audio 12W7 x2
JL Audio 300/4
JL Audio 500/1

with 2 12w7's a 500.1 is Barely going to push them. ur under powering them at that point. they need at lease 500watts to each sub. if ur on a tight budget stick with the 500.1 and get 2 12 w3v2 they will sound great i had that set up untill it got jacked. but now i have 2 12w6v1 with a ppi 600.1 amp not to shabby.

Yup its going to be under powered but I don't mind. I drive with my baby all the time so I cant crank up the music anyhow. I just dont like the look of 1 sub in my trunk and the 1000/1 is just too much money for me.

Ive heard the w6's are better than w7's cuz thye put out weird frequencies that arent supposed to be there. Dunno if its true tho.

I don't think you realize that that amp will barely push one of those subs. 450ish watts is the bottom end of the required amount of power for a 12w7. I don't think 250 watts per sub will be able to move them. You will need 2 500 watt amps to barely power both of them, 500+-1000 is what is reccomended for optimum power. Your best bet if you don't want a lot of power anyway would just to do 1 12w7. Or I would reccomend just 1 10w7. With only 500 watts the 10w7 will hit harder than the 12, and response will be much better. I have 2 10w7's pushing them with a Diamond Audio 800 watt amp and they sound great.

There's my 2 cents.

A chain? I think that would cause you more headache than it would security. It you are running 2 12's that chain is going to rattle and chink like crazy. I say don't bother with the chain. If someone wants your stereo bad enough to actually break into your car a chain is not going to stop them.

Surely they would be equipped with bolt cutters/hack saw/dremel etc. Unless you seriously bolt it down and make it time consuming to steal it, if someone wants it they are going to get it, and the more resistance you put in their path the more damage you might ensue inside the car.

I say just insure it and if it gets stolen it gets stolen.
