Need a few quick opinions!!!

It would be best to cut a large piece of plywood to fit in the rear of the 4runner and then cover that with matching carpet and bolt the box to the board with about 100 screws. That way its not a grab and go operation, the thief would have to unscrew all those and trust me they won't be doing that. And it will look better than a chain bolted to the box... How are you going to lock the chain to the box? And what are you going to lock the chain to to keep it in the car?
I just wouldn't trust a chain to keep the box in my car... I say if they are balsy enough to break into the car in the first place they are probably expecting a little bit of trouble to actually get that out. But hey it's your box and you can do what you want.

put some ring hooks on the box and feed the chain there, and feed the chain on the rings hooks on the trunk itself, and feed it thru the back seat too, and make a big ass loop , and that should work.
