Now that you guys have helped me narrow my search down to 99-00 models I have a new question. How can you tell if the 4runner you're looking at has the Highlander springs? Thanks:girl:

The color codes are the only sure way. I didn't mean to be snarky, but reading the FAQ's can be useful. Not only the Highlanders had the tall springs.
The codes may have dirt on them, but they should be there. On a middle wrap, facing the front of the car, if the spring is in right.

I personally don't think it matters whether a truck has the '99 tall coils or not. The vast majority of them are saggy and shot by now anyways. The 1st thing I would do to a new (to me) 3rd gen would be upgrade the suspension and the aftermarket stuff is way better IMO. You can always get new '99 tall coils from the dealer and be good for a few years, but at that point you have better options than just some 1" higher stock coils (virtually un-noticeable) and base-Tokico shocks.

I've been wondering about the springs being worn out myself. All of the 4runners I've driven have tons of body roll. I'm thinking about the complete OME from Toytec as my first upgrade. Its 2.5" front/3" in back with the diff drop. How hard is the lift to put on yourself if you get the fronts assembled by toytec and what else do I need?
