Need a new engine, recommended by Toyota dealer

So I decided to register at toyota.com/owners to see if there was a service history on my truck. And I found something interesting.:faint:

I guess around 5k miles ago the previous owner took it to the dealer for the CEL/ sputtering problem and toyota recommended that they replace the motor, shhhhh nobody tell my 4runner that.

Now I know why I got it for so cheap...


I bought the truck with a cylinder 5 misfire but I swapped coils and plugs and it has all but gone away. Maybe happens once a month or so...

On the bright side they did the timing belt and a bunch of other maintenance about 30k miles ago so I am good to go there lol.


My guess is the toyota dealer was trying to get some money out of the woman who owned it. The motor runs way too smooth and nice 99% of the time for it to need an engine.

I don't have a question I just thought I'd share.

New engine time not under warranty equals we don't want to mess with it here at the dealer.

Run a compression test in the engine one day just to see the numbers produced.

I'm honestly not too worried about it. Going to just keep maintaining this engine until it quits. Figure at 280k it's had a good life, if it makes it to 300k I'll be happy.

I planned on buying a spare engine here shortly and throwing it up on an engine stand to reseal and have on standby.

Based on my experiences with my local(see my signature)dealer, who used to be trustable, it appears that that dealer's business was running a bit slow.

Yeah wouldn't be the first time that's for sure. Precisely why I never go to shops for anything

Well the runner made a 700 mile roadtrip to and from San Diego with absolutely no issues. :dance:

Someone should probably let it know that its engine is bad and needs to be replaced because he hasn't gotten that memo yet. :lmao:


I even left with 2 torn and missing half shaft boots and that did not affect anything. Though I will be replacing those soon. Figured I used up all my luck on that trip lol.
