Need a new printer

Hey guys! I currently have a HP photosmart 3210 AIO printer, the only problem is it seems to just burn through ink cartridges without every really printing that much (yes my computer is setup for draft "low ink use printing").

I was wondering if anyone has any knowledge of a good printer/scanner setup that doesn't consume a crap load of ink, and the ink isn't a fortune to buy each time. I don't care if it can do photos as I don't print them on my printer.

I'm tired of the $20 black ink and the 5 other $11 color ink cartridges. Or look at it this way, $75 for just ink alone.

Any suggestions?

I have a older Epson CX6000, but it has the newer inks. More $$. Photo scanner/printer. Good unit but burns thru those inks. 4x cartridges. (too bad the older ones with extra large 'black ink' that lasted forever are not still around) not sure what will be next.

Do you turn the printer on and off? I heard HPs consume ink when the printer is turned on, and most don't recommend turning the printer off for unnecessary ink consumption. Also, the starter cartridges are not full yield cartridges, some say it's only 50% full.

Maybe look into a CIS (continuous ink supply) system. eBay usually has them for $50 or so. But your research here, some of them are crappy and they leak. I haven't needed to replace my original cartridges, but will go the CIS route when the time comes.

Yeah I'm a fan of "shutting it off" with living in Arizona I'm tired of the electric bills, but I'm thinking the turning it on does alot of priming. So now my only problem is I think the printer head is a bit clogged cuz I'm not getting even color coverage, even after doing the clean print head crap.

The CIS is interesting, I will look into that if I can get my printer to clean out and print properly.

Get a cheap monochrome laser printer - it will be much cheaper than a colour printer that eats up cartridges as the toner will last for many months.

ditto on the cheap monochrome laser printer. I've seen good enough models for $60. of course those only come with a "starter cartridge" only good for 50 pages or something. "high capacity" cartridges can often be found online for about $60 and can print several thousand pages. Another advantage to laser/toner is they don't dry out if you don't use it often enough.

I ended up with my Epson WorkForce 630, I just finally bought replacement ink cartridges for it, which I haven't even used yet. The factory ink cartridges still have juice left in them. I'm loving this printer, doesn't chug ink, it only sips tiny microscopic amounts of it.
