I have a 1999 2wd 4 runner - where can i get a posi for the rear end?
I'm doing an engine conversion to a Vortec 6.0 and will need to improve the traction. Thanks, Tom

Not gonna lie I just had to Google what the heck you were talking about lol!

I'm guessing this is more for vehicle destined for the track? Not sure I've ever noticed a need to get power to the wheels before.

This would be an interesting build
Powertrax makes no slip posi for 4runners ,Tacoma and tundra. i think would work. powertrax no slip posi are used in baja racing trucks Drivetrain.com.

I have had both these lockers in dragsters. The truetrac is a worm gear diff uses friction to transfer power to both Wheels. The lock right is a locker kit that installs inside the standard differential case. The trutrac is smooth. The lock right really jumps when drag racing and since you are doing 6.0l vortec conversion powertrax would be good for that pop when the light turns green on a dragstrip.

I second the Powertrax install. Inexpensive and effective. Simple install (I installed one on my old Dodge Ram 1500. Ran it 235000 miles). The Powertrax is on my "to do" list for my 2000 SR5. I'm hoping I can say the same for the install on the Toyota.

Now ya'll have me thinking. I knew I had some bad tire spin but never thought much could be done about it. Truetrac sounds about like what I would want... hmm...

This should be the correct one.

My only "issue" with mine is you have to be more careful when accelerating while turning, especially on snow/rain. This is true for pretty much any LSD/Locker.

It makes zero noise which is nice compared to the lunchbox lockers.

I don't do any hardcore off-roading but I do take my rig on a couple miles worth of hunting trails in central Wisconsin. We groom the trails and try to keep them decent so there are no "crazy" areas but there are some spot where I used to need to put it in 4WD.

Now with my Truetrac in the rear, I never need to use 4WD unless its muddy or there is snow on the ground.

They are great!

Since you will probably be changing your gear ratio have East Coast Gear set up a 3rd member with a truetrack in it.

I like my truetrack.:zoom:

The first time I drove the 4Runner in the rain I was amazed at how much the tires spin. I'm so used to AWD+rear LSD vehicles (with much more power and lighter weight!) that never spin a tire unless I'm *really* going for it... If/when I put more power in the 4Runner, it will be full-time 4WD with at least a rear Truetrac.

This should be the correct one.

That's when the fun starts! My Alltrac with the rear Torsen (same tech as the Truetrac) is so much fun in the snow! Drifting anytime you want!

A local differential builder near me said he'd install it for $225, done! Looking forward to testing this both on the road and in the dirt/snow!

That's a good deal. I took the entire 3rd member from my donor truck and swapped it into mine. The previous owner had a truetrac installed and I want to say he paid like a grand for the truetrac and to have it installed (just installed into the diff, he brought the diff in).

I got mine installed as well had the 3rd member rebuild since the diff. bearings were SHOT. I didn't realize how noisy they had become until I drove it home and it was so quiet!

For reference sake, the guy who did mine installed this one https://www.summitracing.com/parts/dtl-913a610/overview/, or the "Toyota V6" kind for the 8.0 in. axle. I have a V6 auto, manuals and 4 cyl. might be different.

Works great so far!
